Anyone else been surprised at what people in their lives have called their children?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Choker?

Sallyssn · 14/01/2023 23:46

Cravat

My sister in law's a teacher, and she had a 'Sharlit' in her class years ago. Not so much an unusual name as crap or inventive spelling. She said she thought they liked the sound of it, but didn't know how to spell it.

I’ve come across something similar - in my case it was Abbey-Gale. I think your sister in law is spot on in her analysis!

I heard of an Abbeygayil.

Noone has mentioned the name yet.

We've had scarf and tie... Stole? Necklace? Not snood!

Braveheart35 · 14/01/2023 18:58

DB & SIL. Two DD's. Hope and Peace.

Just find it tacky.

belinda789 · 14/01/2023 18:36

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie named one of the children "Shiloh". Shiloh Pitt sounds nice until you Spoonerise it. Imagine the poor child's life at school...…...

@godmum56

No, quite the opposite. They put their parents through hell and terrorize their siblings. Neighbours and visitors are regularly subjected to vulgar behaviour and expletive tantrums.

And you know exactly what I meant. But, carry on trying to be clever...

Reggie and Ronnie for twins. Why would you?

I know someone who named their twins Ronnie and Reggie too!

Neapolita would have been far classier Grin

Vienetta has a nice sound. Etta for short.

Jo586 · 14/01/2023 18:04

No luckily I don't mix with scumbags, so its no daisy mae we have to come across.

Similar... Dante raised eyebrows. I just smiled.

The DC is living up to the name too. I keep on smiling...

they write Italian poetry?

sisters friend called her kid vanilla because it sounded so exotic.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/01/2023 15:27

I used to know a young adult Elizabeth who went by Buffy, which seemes a little odd (although clearly just a nickname); but just 'Buff' on its own. Might as well be called 'Phwooaarr!!"

deste · 10/01/2023 15:18

Buff

Biddie191 · 10/01/2023 13:37

I know of a toddler who has the same name as a village down the road from where they live. As in first and last name. I did raise an eyebrow at that one.

Hopefully not Old Sodbury then.

Riverlee · 10/01/2023 13:33

Blanket wasn’t Michael Jackson’s real name, but a nickname he acquired as MJ often covered his face with a blanket to obscure his identity, including the famous window scene.

Yes one of the children in the family has a ridiculous name, hes named after an item of clothing. I feel sorry for him as all the other kids in the family have normal names even his brother. When I've mentioned his name in passing to people always ask me to repeat the name.

Sorry, not read it all, but surely not noose?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/01/2023 12:24

Ooh Kaftan, for a boy or a girl d’you think?

Did Yoko Ono ever consider having a daughter and calling her Kim?!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/01/2023 12:23

Apart from the ubiquity of Nevaeh (it's heaven spelled backwards, just in case you didn't know Grin), isn't it kind of weird taking a nice thing and putting it backwards? Wouldn't you think that was a way of shifting it 180 to the dark side?!

Maybe some Welsh parents out there might want to consider introducing the name Lleh?!

The first seven letters of Anne Hegerty's name spell gehenna backwards - spooky, no?!

Just can’t stand Nevaeh. The Nevaeh at my DC’s school gets her name shrieked across the playground. Her Mum has one level of speaking, loud.

There were 5 with that “unique” name in one year at a school I worked in once.
