Anyone else been surprised at what people in their lives have called their children?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yes one of the children in the family has a ridiculous name, hes named after an item of clothing. I feel sorry for him as all the other kids in the family have normal names even his brother. When I've mentioned his name in passing to people always ask me to repeat the name.

I've got friends with baby girls called Doris and Ethel, and baby boys called Frank and Ralph, and every time I see them (they are adorable, as are all babies) I think they wouldn't be out of place in a residential care home for the elderly.

Names go in and out of fashion though, and I must admit, I prefer 'real' names to unique new names.

Oh yes. We have two DNs with names that are so far out there as to be laugh out loud. They’re just like “wtaf”? names and their parents are fairly normal individuals, one of them is a teacher so should know better but there you go.

I was surprised when a family baby was named an 'old lady's name' but since then I have become aware they are currently back 'in', so it makes sense.

Yes. 'Griffin' was misjudged, in my opinion, but of course I'm keeping it to myself!

WaddleAway · 08/01/2023 19:04

No, not really. Everyone has different tastes, and none of them have used completely wacky or ‘out there names’.

A bit, but they're not my children so it really doesn't matter what I think

Have you?
