Anyone else been surprised at what people in their lives have called their children?

Jean?

Is baby Cape a boy or a girl? If I was going to name my baby after an item of clothing I'd go for Tuxedo. Tux for short. Or perhaps Bandana, or Cummerbund.

It’s got to be Chain then!

KirstenBlest · 08/01/2023 19:50

Bow.

Anisina · 08/01/2023 19:49

I quite like Cape. I think it is actually a name.

violetta100 · 08/01/2023 19:49

Wow. Chain sounds like he'd be a good playmate for my new cousin once removed, Hades... (wish I were joking)

Rabbitsandhabits · 08/01/2023 19:49

Cape as in Cape Town. That’s really weird

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/01/2023 19:48

Aw I was about to suggest Cameo. I would have liked a little Cameo!

I've got friends with baby girls called Doris and Ethel, and baby boys called Frank and Ralph, and every time I see them (they are adorable, as are all babies) I think they wouldn't be out of place in a residential care home for the elderly.

Names go in and out of fashion though, and I must admit, I prefer 'real' names to unique new names.

I always feel people who call their children ghastly old lady names that never sound nice are just trying to be clever and edgy (and quite likely middle class), I never feel it’s done from the heart or they think how that child might feel in the future.

AllyCatTown · 08/01/2023 19:48

I’m glad I started this 😂

As to my original question I didn’t have any outlandish ones to share and obviously it’s none of my business. I’ve just notice a few people who seem quite stylish and out there on different things in their lives have gone for really common popular names which surprised me.
