In all honesty what do you think of these names?
Penelope and Oaklynn for a girl?

Dislike both names quite a bit, Penelope is old fashioned in the bad way and Oaklyn is just a made up name that is trying too hard to be different.

DurdleSnore · 08/01/2023 07:51

Agree with the others. Like Penelope, dislike Oaklynn for the above reasons.

Mumofgirls2017 · 07/01/2023 22:36

Penelope- awesome
oaklynn- awful

sorry!

ShesThunderstorms · 07/01/2023 19:52

I absolutely adore Penelope. If our first was a girl that would've been his name! I did have worries about people shortening it to Penny though, as I liked the full name.
Oaklynn in my opinion couldn't be further from Penelope, totally different style and definitely not to my taste. It's quite American sounding.

Preggingswearingleggings · 07/01/2023 19:42

Oaklynn sounds like a housing estate.

ofwarren · 07/01/2023 19:34

Penelope is fine
Oaklynn is I name I'd expect to see on that American beauty pageant show, Toddlers and Tiaras, along with Tammylynn and Crystal.

Biscuitsneeded · 07/01/2023 19:18

Penelope is sweet. Oaklynn is awful. And not a name.

SunshineAndFizz · 07/01/2023 19:11

Penelope is fine. Love Penny.

Oaklynne is truly terrible. Makes Lucky Boy sound decent.

Quornflakegirl · 07/01/2023 19:07

Interesting replies. whatwhatwhatnow you hit the nail on the head, one parent is Greek and the other American!

Penelope Oaklynn imo is fine. Middle names are hardly used.

If naming twins, I would find it a strange choice as they are such different styles. Classical Greek vs modern American.

RambamThankyouMam · 07/01/2023 17:58

Penelope sounds like a fish flopping around on a deck. Penny as a nickname reminds me of a 1960s spinster.

Oaklynn sounds like the name a far-right American influencer would name their child.

wingsofabird · 07/01/2023 17:09

penelope is lovely

LulooLemon · 07/01/2023 13:35

Penelope - love
Oaklynn - nah

AnotherNameChangeYes · 07/01/2023 12:46

Oaklynn is a trailer trash name.

Penelope is nice and quite popular these days.

icanwearwhatiwant · 07/01/2023 12:36

Penelope is fine, I'm not a massive fan but objectively it's a nice enough name.

Oaklynn on the other hand is not a nice name. It sounds like a brand of wardrobe to me.

YourWinter · 07/01/2023 12:35

Oaklynn isn’t a name for a human. Awful!

I know a little Penny whose name is really Penny, not Penelope, and an over-40 Penelope whose name has never, ever been shortened. Lovely name!

MyOldCaravan · 07/01/2023 12:31

Oaklynn sounds like the name of a suburban bungalow.

KirstenBlest · 07/01/2023 12:29

Definitely not a name from the Welsh language. Oak is Derw in Welsh. Lyn might be from glyn or llyn, but the nn isn't welsh.

TowerStork · 07/01/2023 12:26

Oaklynn just sounds like a made up name by someone trying to be unique. Personally I prefer established names but if you actually want a unique name it's fine. I like the nature reference and it's easy to say.

I can't decide whether I hate or pity those who dismiss names because someone who lives in a trailer might have it. Disliking a name is one thing. Disparaging social groups you think inferior is unnecessary.

Reindear · 07/01/2023 12:24

I am welsh, Oaklynn is definitely not

AnOldCynic · 07/01/2023 12:23

Quote from t'internet "a modern created name".

NeverGonnaNot · 07/01/2023 12:21

Oaklynn (never heard of it) Wouldn’t be a Welsh name spelt like that. There is no ‘k’ in the Welsh alphabet for a start.

Quornflakegirl · 07/01/2023 12:19

I would totally agree with all these comments. Thank you for justifying what I have been saying repeatedly! And can I just ask if Oaklynn is a Welsh name? 😳

Penelope I’m indifferent to.

Oaklynn is a big no from me!

Quornflakegirl · 07/01/2023 12:03

What do you not like about Oaklynn?

I don't particularly like the sound and it looks made up. I wouldn't even like it as a house name.
