No, it looks right to me - when DS1, now 44, was about 10 years old his 'girlfriend' was Elinor!

misslucy92 · 13/01/2023 17:32

Thank you all so much! We like Elinor and to us it reminds us of classic literature. It has been interesting to read all of your replies. It’s still on top of our list but we are also considering some other names.

Yes

mathanxiety · 09/01/2023 04:38

Not to me.

I know equal numbers of Eleanors, Eleanores, and Elinors.

DarkDarkNight · 07/01/2023 20:45

No, I think it’s a legitimate spelling, it’s good enough for Jane Austin.

verdantverdure · 07/01/2023 20:44

Eleanor looks wrong to me. (Jane Austen fan)

Beetie1 · 07/01/2023 20:40

No. My dd is Elin (Welsh).

MajorCarolDanvers · 07/01/2023 20:34

Elinor M Brent Dyer - author of chalet School books

Elinor Dashwood - Sense & Sensibility

Elinor Barker - World Champion cyclist

Plenty of famous examples for of Elinor

CharitySchmarity · 07/01/2023 20:19

Not misspelt, just a variant that is currently quite rare. I do know one little girl called Elinor actually, but most people seem to call her Ellie.

I've known an Elanor and an Elenor, and those really do look misspelt to me,

SemperIdem · 07/01/2023 20:13

I prefer it to Eleanor but would also pronounce it slightly differently.

RoseslnTheHospital · 04/01/2023 14:27

Not to me, because it's the Welsh spelling. Plus, there are many different spellings of the name, Eleanor/Eleanore/Elenor/Elanor etc etc.

Those all look misspelled to me, except Eleanor.

Emmelina · 06/01/2023 21:44

It’s the Welsh spelling of Eleanor.

It’s also Merida’s mother’s name in Brave, Queen Elinor!

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/01/2023 19:10

Eleanor/Elinor is only pronounced ‘ore’ in the US, in the UK it’s ‘uh’ as if it ended with an a

Not in Scotland! We pronounce “r” when it is at the end of a word - we don’t say “cah” for car or “Dooh” for door, so we don’t say “elenuh” for Eleanor/Elinor.

frogswimming · 06/01/2023 20:53

No. It's that spelling in pride and prejudice.

ElinorDashwood68 · 06/01/2023 19:12

Same spelling as Jane Austen's character!

TheChosenTwo · 06/01/2023 19:12

Looks really ‘wrong’ to my eyes and funnily enough came across this spelling for the first
time ever today at work! I had to type it and I kept having to check and recheck 😂

OldTinHat · 06/01/2023 19:11

Yes.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/01/2023 19:10

urrrgh46 · 04/01/2023 20:00

No it doesn't look misspelt and I would assume you wanted the pronunciation
El-in-ore

Eleanor/Elinor is only pronounced ‘ore’ in the US, in the UK it’s ‘uh’ as if it ended with an a

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/01/2023 19:08

No, Elinor Dashwood etc.

I like it and would go for it if you want.. but it will be slightly more annoying for her.

knitfastdieyoung · 06/01/2023 19:01

No. It's a slightly old-fashioned but that's not necessarily a bad thing....

DahliaMacNamara · 04/01/2023 23:14

No, I always think of Eleanor as a bit of an upstart. Possibly wrongly. Much prefer the Elinor spelling, as it's the one I was familiar with as a child..

Firebird83 · 04/01/2023 23:10

I pronounce it differently to Eleanor. Elinor - eh-lin-or, Eleanor - ellen-uh

LulooLemon · 04/01/2023 21:22

Elinor Brent-Dyer

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 04/01/2023 20:42

No. Dashwood, later Ferrars.

urrrgh46 · 04/01/2023 20:00

No it doesn't look misspelt and I would assume you wanted the pronunciation
El-in-ore
