Jesse for a boy? I love it but finding myself over thinking names this time around so much! Worried people may mistake for a girls name?

Because it’s a widely known insult!

I think it's old fashioned & outdated!

And I don't know what insult relates to Ned as I said.

Because it’s a widely known insult! It’s like asking people why they’d think a certain way when they heard the name Ned or Randy.

I think I was just asking people on opinions on if they thought it may be confused as a girls name...
I have Scottish relations and not concerned about "big jessie"

It is an old fashioned insult and certainly didn't spring to my mind and I'm Scottish. I really like it and I think it sounds quite masculine but also cute for a little one too

@SirChenjins how old are you?

bibbif · 28/12/2022 11:28

It’s hardly insular - it’s a widely known insult

Is it? why would you hear someone's name & your mind go to an insult, that's weird but you can disagree.

What's the insult to do with Ned?

SirChenjins · 28/12/2022 11:23

bibbif · 28/12/2022 10:16

It’s still an insult unfortunately - although every time threads about this name come up some posters will insist it isn’t.

But not everyone loves in insular communities?

What was your question around Ned?

fizzysoda · 28/12/2022 11:00

I met someone at a baby group with a baby boy called Jesse and have always thought it was a lovely name

bibbif · 28/12/2022 10:21

The baby name threads are so weird, so many names are either an insult, means something else in Tibet or has connotations from the 1930s. Too hard to pronounce or read, dc will be bullied or laughed at etc. Honestly where do these incredibly sheltered people who think like this live?

bibbif · 28/12/2022 10:17

or lives!

It’s like calling your child Ned here

?

bibbif · 28/12/2022 10:15

Know a lovely one. Never even thought of the insult but why would you? it's ridiculously old fashioned.

lifeinthehills · 28/12/2022 10:15

Jesse is biblical. It's a great male name. Jessie is the girl version. It was on my list but I had a girl.

NewToWoo · 28/12/2022 10:14

I love it. Makes me think of Aaron Paul in Breaking Bad, but only in a good way! Grin

JenniferVeronique · 28/12/2022 10:13

Jesse Is completely fine for a boy. Where I live Its In the top 100 of most popular boy names.

Purplemagnolias · 28/12/2022 10:00

It sounds so feminine, probably because it's a nickname for Jessica?

SirChenjins · 28/12/2022 09:47

It’s still an insult unfortunately - although every time threads about this name come up some posters will insist it isn’t. It’s like calling your child Ned here - it’s still an insult that you don’t inflict it on your precious poppet. Jesse is about as far from a rugged and masculine name as you could get.

Bluelightbaby · 28/12/2022 09:45

Love it, it’s on my list but my DP hates it !

Matilda1981 · 28/12/2022 09:43

Love it - a friends son is called Jesse!

Purplemagnolias · 28/12/2022 09:43

What's a Big Jessie?

Purplemagnolias · 28/12/2022 09:43

I only know girls called Jessie or Jess.

It's often short for Jessica

BaublesandBangles · 28/12/2022 09:23

I know several boy Jesse's. No one is so much of a dick as to call them a 'Big Jessie' because it's a perfectly normal boys name around here.

Wonnle · 28/12/2022 09:13

As in "Great Big" ? mmmmm

LaLuz7 · 28/12/2022 09:08

Hate it. Sounds obnoxious.
