Jesse for a boy? I love it but finding myself over thinking names this time around so much! Worried people may mistake for a girls name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BlastedPimples · 28/12/2022 14:31

Love it.

octoberfarm · 28/12/2022 13:46

I really like it!

SirChenjins · 28/12/2022 13:42

I didn’t ask if you knew anyone who used the term ned - I asked if you’d heard of it. Even if you are not aware of terms used widely elsewhere in the UK I presume you have Google in your non-insular part of the world and could have looked it up in less time than it’s taken you to post several times about the word.

Mimilamore · 28/12/2022 13:40

Love it, a favourite here

bibbif · 28/12/2022 13:32

And no I don't know anyone who uses the term Ned or non educated delinquent.

bibbif · 28/12/2022 13:30

about "big Jessie", perhaps the OP does find it helpful though 😆

downtonupton · 28/12/2022 13:28

DD's OH is Jesse - he has never been called a big Jessie except in jest by family as he is 6ft 4 so is a 'big' Jesse.

SirChenjins · 28/12/2022 13:13

bibbif · 28/12/2022 12:01

And it's irrelevant & unhelpful to the OP so I'm not sure why you are still here labouring your point?

Labouring what point?

Ned - non educated delinquent. Surely you must have heard of neds, given how non-insular you are.

RaininSummer · 28/12/2022 13:11

I love it.

UsingChangeofName · 28/12/2022 12:54

Yeh I'm aware of the "big Jessie" insult.. but I would say this is quite an old fashioned insult? Not sure it's relevant these days?

It really is.
I asked my dc, last time this disagreement came up on Baby names thread and they all knew it as an insult. None of them would consider using it for a boy.
We have no Scottish connections - it is not a nice thing to call someone in England either.

Mynameiselvispresley · 28/12/2022 12:51

I think it’s a gorgeous name. I know a lovely 12 year old boy and a very handsome man.

I’m not aware of any issues raised in the thread.

rafanadalsarms · 28/12/2022 12:49

Jesse Pinkman. What could be wrong with this. Classic modern name. And I've just named my kitten after him. Aaron Paul is 😍

Purplemagnolias · 28/12/2022 09:43

What's a Big Jessie?

A weak, effeminate or cowardly man.

inquisitorgeneral · 28/12/2022 12:39

I like Jesse. It's Biblical - the name of the father of King David. I also think of Breaking Bad and Brad Pitt's portrayal of Jesse James.

I've never heard of the "big Jessie" insult. And frankly I think young people are more likely to be aware of the Breaking Bad character than dated/regional (?) slang connotations.

bibbif · 28/12/2022 12:37

Just explaining why I dont know the issue with Ned.

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/12/2022 12:35

bibbif · 28/12/2022 12:27

NED = Non Educated Delinquent / the Scottish equivalent of Chav

I don't live in Scotland...

Did anyone say that you do?

cptartapp · 28/12/2022 12:33

I immediately thought of 'big Jessie' too
Effeminate to my ears.

iklboo · 28/12/2022 12:21

I know a boy called Jesse. He's absolutely adorable.

RuthW · 28/12/2022 12:18

Really dislike on s boy. Too feminine.

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/12/2022 12:18

I don't know what insult relates to Ned

NED = Non Educated Delinquent / the Scottish equivalent of Chav

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/12/2022 12:14

Ya Big Jessie is what I hear but I've lived in the west of Scotland where you'd never call a man Jesse unless intending a great insult.

FluffingtonMuffington · 28/12/2022 12:07

I love it. There's a Jesse in my child's class, no one thinks he's a girl.

LlynTegid · 28/12/2022 12:02

Not one I would choose. Danger of being misspelt as well as the insult.

bibbif · 28/12/2022 12:01
