Jesse for a boy? I love it but finding myself over thinking names this time around so much! Worried people may mistake for a girls name?

  1. Been teaching well over 20 years though - it was quite popular a few years ago and we had three in the school at one time (1500 pupils).
Cravingsgalore · 04/12/2023 23:25

I love it!

DelphiniumBlue · 04/12/2023 23:22

I've been teaching nearly 15 years and I've only taught one Jesse, and that was about 10 years ago.

I love it as a name. Have taught some great kids with the name. All a bit quirky

How many boys have you taught with the name? Over how many years? Is it that popular?

I love Jesse and wish I'd used it.

Jesse is a great name, I associate it with hunky cowboy types!

I think so too. Or maybe a sexy surfer type?

Beautiful name and would probably be my choice if we ever had another boy.

purpledahlias · 02/12/2023 08:00

Jesse sounds like the girls name Jessie, short for Jessica. I don't like it for a boy.

BlastedPimples · 02/12/2023 01:01

It's lovely.

Jesse Armstrong who wrote Succession is certainly no weakling.

They really don't. Only people of 60 odd plus do and no one's really arsed what they say anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why is no-one arsed what over 60s say in your opinion?

UsingChangeofName · 27/11/2023 14:40

Not sure where you are doing your sampling of "people" @FedUpOfInstaMum but, oddly, I heard someone saying his the other day. I'd estimate she was early 30s.
I asked my dc who are in their 20s and all of them had heard the expression and knew what it meant, too.

@FedUpOfInstaMum

Lol - but they do of all ages.

Ya Big Jesse

So no.

No one says that anymore. Apart from old people.

Love it. I had Jesper on my list and thought we'd probably call him Jesse but he'd have the option of his full name if he preferred it when he was older or Jess.

It’s still an insult unfortunately - although every time threads about this name come up some posters will insist it isn’t. It’s like calling your child Ned here - it’s still an insult that you don’t inflict it on your precious poppet. Jesse is about as far from a rugged and masculine name as you could get.

Ned is terrible

Surely people don't call their kids Ned? 😳

I don’t like it. Sounds a bit obnoxious imo.

Cressie2 · 25/11/2023 09:00

Free Willy is an all time favourite so I vote yes.

FedUpOfInstaMum · 23/11/2023 12:51

I totally love it and I'm thinking of using it.

Krakenwakes · 28/12/2022 16:31

It’s fine. Definitely a male name, biblical with a long history. Not related to the girl’s name Jessie, or the expression/insult Big Jessie. However, I’m not personally keen on Jesse.

Purplemagnolias · 28/12/2022 16:18

Jesse Pinkman. What could be wrong with this.

A lot. Jesse sounds like a nickname for Jessica so quite feminine. And Pinkman sounds like a pink man GrinWink
