Marnie?

peaceinourtime · 28/12/2022 02:03

Go for Ocean if you must or any other of the marine themed names that have been suggested.

JustAnotherSlob · 28/12/2022 01:32

Mariana will invite Mariana's Trench jokes
People will think Lakelyn is just a mis-hearing of Caitlin
Poor kid.

extratimeplease · 28/12/2022 01:29

Check this out. There's a long list of suggestions:

It sounds like the name of a cruise ship

It does.

And Lakelyn sounds like a motel.

Don’t be stupid OP. Your child has to live with this for about 80 years. You aren’t naming a novelty goldfish.

Marina and Cora are fine and there will be others.

Lilyhop · 28/12/2022 01:12

Thank you all- have added Coral to the list, I think DH might actually like that one. And also Mariana - haven’t heard of that.
I thought of Sailor earlier and Navy but DH vetoed those ones, even as middle names.

Truly you cannot name your child after a chain of nightclubs but it’s actually the best name on the list.

Niagara? The viagra jokes write themselves.

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 27/12/2022 21:24

Oceana just makes me think of the nightclubs and the cruise ship.

Lakelyn and Niagara, not at all my taste but each to their own.

River is lovely! Brook/Brooke is similar.

Some other water/ocean inspired names that I like:

One of my favourites, Maren, it's means star of the sea!

Mariana, the deepest place in the Pacific Ocean.

Morgan, Morwenna, Nerissa, Yara all have meanings connected to the sea.

Phineyj · 27/12/2022 21:15

Stella Maris. Star of the sea. It was in a rather tragic Alan Ruckman film.

Sandysandwich · 27/12/2022 21:13

Talia
Marin
Adriana
Morwenna
Have waterish meanings

HoHoHowMuch · 27/12/2022 21:13

Ocean on its own is nicer.

Coral
Ariel - little mermaid
Marisol
Calypso - possibly better as a dog name as we watch too much Bluey
Pearl

BlancPetal · 27/12/2022 21:10

I'd go with Marina

Berlinlover · 27/12/2022 21:09

I hear this name screamed every single day by a local chav woman in the supermarket where I work when she’s looking for her daughter.

Notonyournellykelly · 27/12/2022 21:08

Coral is a good suggestion or how about Pearl?

LizzieBet14 · 27/12/2022 21:07

None

wildthingsinthenight · 27/12/2022 21:07

Marina or Coral

SommerTen · 27/12/2022 21:05

My dad had an orange Morris Marina.

And Oceana is a cruise ship.

Notonyournellykelly · 27/12/2022 21:05

What is it about ocean themed names that you like? Is it the nature aspect? How about something like Willow or Winter? Or;

Lilac
Autumn
Wren
Robin
Seren (means star)

TheodoreMortlock · 27/12/2022 21:05

Cordelia? Means heart of the sea / daughter of the sea.

IntentionalError · 27/12/2022 21:00

Oceana sounds like the name of a cruise ship because that’s exactly what it was. P&O operated Oceana between 2002 & 2020. My mum sailed on her several times.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/12/2022 21:00

Marina is the obvious one, there's also Maris ("of the sea"). Or maybe Nereida (sea nymph)?

IamSamantha · 27/12/2022 20:58

It's a cruise ship my DM and Aunty go on. Sorry but no.

CatSeany · 27/12/2022 20:56

The nightclub comes straight to mind hearing that name! I don't think I'd want people to say "Oh, like the night club?" on hearing my name, but maybe not many people would make that association, I'm not sure.

Lilyhop · 27/12/2022 20:54

DH also likes Violet, which is one of the only ones I like as well. I like it but don’t love it.
I’m determined to find a name I love that he likes..

Marina?
