Ah, my brother met his lovely wife in Oceana Birmingham!

Miranda?

DuchessOfSausage · 30/12/2022 17:30

Marine

We have four children, yes I know MN doesn’t approve of such a large number of offspring but here we are 😬
All four have names that my DH chose. I’ve always wanted to use more unusual names but I’ve backed down.
This will be our last baby.
We met at sea (nothing too exciting, we met on a ferry to France!) so I’ve always wanted to give one of our children a name with a nice reason behind it!
All of our children have family middle names.

How about a French name then?!

Lola
Camille
Coco
Adele
Lois
Delphine
Eloise
Madeliene

Love Oceana. Hate the others.

KnickerlessParsons · 30/12/2022 00:14

Oceana sounds like the name of a ship, and Niagara is a ridiculous name! Lakelyn also.

Ladyofthelake53 · 30/12/2022 00:09

Oceana sounds like a cruise ship

SellFridges · 30/12/2022 00:06

I’m sure a bloke from East 17 called his kid Oceana in the mid 90’s. She must be pushing 30 now.

It sounds like the name of a cruise ship

It is the name of a cruise ship

Lilyhop · 30/12/2022 00:02

Thank you everyone- we both really like Coral. Still a compromise for us both as there are other names we really love, but don’t like each other’s loved names!!
Eliza is growing on me - DH loves that one. And then he said he would let me choose the middle name.
So possibly Eliza Ocean ?

oceana is off the list now, since reading the comment about Swansea 😭

It doesn't seem right that you won't have a name that he loves and you like but you think it's fine to go with a name that you love and he likes Hmm

I’ve gone with names he loves and I like for our other 4 children 🙈

Maris mean sea.
Stella Maris, star of the sea, but usually attributed to the Virgin Mary.

toomuchlaundry · 29/12/2022 23:43

Sailor? Really!

ODFOx · 29/12/2022 23:40

Or go 'hippy/arty' and just use the nouns:
Ocean
Lake
Stream
Beck
Wave
Delta
Water
Rain
Rainbow
Mist

ODFOx · 29/12/2022 23:35

Marina
Maris
Coral
Naia
Ariel (not really sea but mermaidy!)
Alda is lovely (Scandinavian I think). I was at Uni with a girl called Alda from Iceland years ago. It is so pretty and strong.

PurpleButterflyWings · 29/12/2022 23:33

No.

bubblegumunicorn · 29/12/2022 23:33

What about the Irish name Oisin (pronounced like ocean! (Oh! Shan)

EmilyGilmoresSass · 29/12/2022 22:36

I'm still waiting on an orca pouncing out of a tiny pool to entertain the masses with that name.

NotABeliever · 29/12/2022 22:11

Please don't name your baby Oceana..it is just awful.

NewMoonPhase · 29/12/2022 22:07

Coralie

NewMoonPhase · 29/12/2022 22:07

Dylan

LivingDeadGirlUK · 29/12/2022 21:59

Rockandgrohl · 27/12/2022 20:47

Oceana was the name of a chain of shit nightclubs in the early Noughties!

mara is nice and means the sea

My first thought too!

I really like River but the other suggestions sound made up to me.

JauntyRedShoes · 29/12/2022 21:56

Oceania (as well as being a nightclub, cruise ship, leisure centre, holiday park) is a geographical region. Sydney and Adelaide are both large population centres in the region and might suit your nautical theme or how about Polly (Polynesia). Ahoy…

justcouldntthinkofausername · 29/12/2022 21:40

Sandy
Pearl
Coral
Ocean
Rivern
Shell / Chelle
Summer

I once came across an 'Atlanta' never heard it again since

RambamThankyouMam · 29/12/2022 21:26

Lakelyn? You must be joking.

It's the sort of name you see on those dreadfully tacky American name signs above a baby's crib, usually with a middle name like Koa or Nova.
