What do you think for the name Evangelia for a baby girl?

I thought the sound was Evan geelia, and it makes me think of congeal

Carolservicedeprived · 30/12/2022 17:06

I don't like the "jelly" sound in the middle!

PeekAtYou · 30/12/2022 16:58

I wouldn't be sure on pronunciation

Ee-van-jee-lia
Ee-van-je-lia

I think she'd get a lot of Evangelina

Personally I would pick more recognisable variants like Angelina , Evangeline , Angelica etc

CatLoaf · 30/12/2022 16:52

I have an Evangeline, and she's always called the full thing... There's no automatic Evie/Eva naming going on

Frazzled2207 · 30/12/2022 15:26

Not keen but I like Evangeline and Evangelina, Evie for short.
showing my age but reminds me of the House of Eliot.

not keen on the religious connotations for some though

user1492757084 · 30/12/2022 15:24

Angela is the best form of that name.

FestivePinkFairy · 27/12/2022 15:54

Not for me. Too much of a mouthful and most people will get it wrong and call her Evangelina.

UsingChangeofName · 27/12/2022 15:34

I think it would get confused by a lot of people who would accidentally put an 'n' in it.
I personally think 5 syllables is a LOT for one name.
Obviously everyone is going to shorten it - possibly to one of the other things mentioned above, but most likely Eve or Evis and that has been very popular recently, which might or might not worry you ?

However, I am not keen on the name myself.

TheaBrandt · 27/12/2022 15:28

She’ll end up another Eve and my god there are thousands of them

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 27/12/2022 15:27

Nope. Evangeline is nice though.

SalviaOfficinalis · 27/12/2022 12:55

I read most of the comments before realising it wasn’t Evangelina. So prepare for it to be frequently mistaken.

It’s not my favourite.

May I suggest Evalina / Evelina.

GlitteryShinyShit · 27/12/2022 12:47

Sounds religious to me, as in evangelist.

I like it however. Evangeline is very pretty.

Mercurial123 · 27/12/2022 12:40

Also reminds me of the surname Evangelista which is common in the Philippines.

RandomCatGenerator · 27/12/2022 10:09

I’ve not heard it before but think it’s pretty. I really like Evangeline and Evangelina.

BibblesworthTheThird · 27/12/2022 08:53

Far too many vowels, it sounds horribly clumsy.

Evangeline or Angeline. Or even Angelina or Angela. All have a similar vibe.

RambamThankyouMam · 27/12/2022 08:51

Sounds very "vaginal."

LaLuz7 · 27/12/2022 08:25

It's literally the Latin word for gospels.

Sounds weird to me. Not a proper recognizable name like Evangeline. And I would hate the religious undertone too.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 27/12/2022 08:19

I couldn't work out how to pronounce it but that's something that can be learned just be conscious of putting that burden on a child and start thinking about what nickname you will want to encourage. My children have long bc names and a shortened form for every day use that I encourage. It's not a name I'm keen on (although I like angelica and evangeline) but again I wouldn't let that put you off.

Nordix · 27/12/2022 08:13

I once worked with a doctor who was an Evangelia, she hated her name and went by Lia.

Krakenwakes · 27/12/2022 07:59

I’ve never heard of it. Evangeline is better. But I would assume you were very religious. It’s not exactly mainstream.

Mercurial123 · 27/12/2022 07:55

It sounds a religious name. I have a Filipino friend with that name.

MargaretMead · 27/12/2022 07:32

I work with an Evangeline and everyone calls her Ange :)

Ydkiml · 27/12/2022 07:20

I think it’s too long . Polly is nice , or Elsie , something shorter .

BCBird · 27/12/2022 07:16

N I don't like it. Any name that is going to.cause a child to have to correct pronunciation is a pain for them.and those who get it wrong.

midsomermurderess · 27/12/2022 07:11

I find it a bit unwieldy. Didn’t Bruce Forsyth’s wife have a name along those lines? Clunky.
