What is everyone’s thoughts on Suki. Would be our 4th daughter. It seems familiar but unusual at the same time. Other name we are considering us Willow so would be interested in people’s thoughts on both x

I like it a lot, think it's actually quite a glam grown up name.
How about Sadie, Nina? I think these names have a cool 70's vibe.
Don't really like Willow, every other toddler where I live seems to be called this now.
Other botanical names, Flora, Sorrel, Rosemary?

Beyond about 4, it’s ghastly. Why not give your daughter a name that isn’t twee, cutesy and will carry her through her adult life?

Weirdly I don’t see it as twee or cutesy! As someone who has a very solid ‘boring’ and practical name that I have hated as a child and an adult I probably have different feeling towards names then you!

Suki - I really like it. What about Katinka or Anouk? Not a fan of Willow.

Makes me think of someone being a sook.

Purplemagnolias · 28/12/2022 07:36

Looks like a nickname for Suzuki

fairycupcakes · 26/12/2022 20:48

I think it’s fabulous! I see her growing up to be cool and confident - that’s the vibes it gives me :)

schoolsoutforever · 26/12/2022 20:28

I like it a lot. It’s unusual and quite fun but still, quite historic (Suki put the kettle on must be quite an old song I think). I would call her Susannah though as it is one that some people may not like as they age ( not me but it seems fair to give options).

FayCarew · 26/12/2022 14:36

It's not unusual where I live and it's a unisex name short for Sukhinder.
Spelling vary

mishl · 26/12/2022 09:59

I think it's okay, but it means "b*tches" in Polish (and probably other Slavic languages). Not one to choose if you have Slavic family members.

ReformedWaywardTeen · 26/12/2022 08:09

I had a Suki in my class at school and she was lovely, so I like that name but unfortunately DH didn't as he likes traditional names.

4onway · 26/12/2022 08:08

Thanks everyone for your input. Seems a bit mixed response which I think I was expecting! I don’t like Susannah at all and don’t want to call her something else to get the nickname Suki—it would be a stand-alone name. I know it is Japanese in origin, but also hoped it’s established enough as a name not to be weird to use it like it would be another Japanese name. I think we are going to keep Willow and Suki and see what she looks like. I’m 5 11 and normally quite slim when not heavily pregnant and her dad is 6 3. She’ll have 3 sisters who are already tall and slim so I’m hoping genetics will help her be a willowly willow but if she is born a big bruiser it might not be the name! Thanks for the other suggestions —some of them we have already considered….

My cat is called Sookie (different spelling but same pronounciation I think) but we got it from
a female character on a tv show called true blood and I think it's a great name for a baby xx

Mommabear20 · 25/12/2022 20:44

It's my aunts dogs name so for a child it's a no from me

Supernormative · 25/12/2022 20:31

Are you Japanese? It's a very popular Asian name. A bit wierd if you are not of that culture.

Toomanybooks22 · 25/12/2022 20:20

Sounds better as a nickname but maybe not as a full name?

I just think of Suki from EastEnders.

This

SayMyNameProperly · 25/12/2022 20:17

I really like it. I've known two. One who used it as a nickname for Susannah and the other was an Indian lady.

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 25/12/2022 20:17

In 20 yrs ive never taught one. The only people i think of are sookie stackhouse from true blood and sookie st james from gilmore girls.

Suki put the kettle on

That's Polly
Suki takes it off again 🤣

I don't mind it, actually. I prefer it to Willow.

RambamThankyouMam · 25/12/2022 20:14

Nicknamey.

I'm a Susannah and get Suki from some family members.

DramaAlpaca · 25/12/2022 20:14

Suki is perfect for a small dog, one of those with a little bow between its ears.

ItsTrueLou · 25/12/2022 20:13

I had a guinea pig called Suki

thefiddlerselbow · 25/12/2022 20:11

I really like it.

Timide · 25/12/2022 20:11

Willow is beautiful!
