Many thanks in advance x

Wow - thank you so much for all your responses!!

@DotDotDotDotDot and @mathanxiety thank you for flagging my typo with the é! You are totally right - it should be Zélie (not Zelié). I’ve just come across this name in another MN thread and it’s a very recent addition to our list. @lennolin @KnickerlessParsons I have to admit I am not 100% sure about the pronunciation (and so will need to make sure we are saying this correctly if we use this name!) As far as I know, I think it is a French name and is pronounced ‘zehlee’ but please do correct me if I am wrong on this!

@GAH3 Eleni is a Greek name which I absolutely love (a friend’s mum is called Eleni and uses the nickname ‘Leni’ which I quite like as an option alongside El/ Eli etc).

Thanks again everyone - really appreciate hearing your thoughts

Agree with PP, the accent should be over the first E in Zelie. Otherwise, you would pronounce it Zel-ee-AY.

So is Zelie- Zaylee. Because that's actually lovely I've never heard it before: but wouldn't know how to pronounce properly. It's hard to add an accent because they aren't really part of the language

Love Zelie and also Zoe.

Not keen on the rest of your list.

allthelittlelights · 23/12/2022 02:13

Zoe.

miniaturepixieonacid · 23/12/2022 01:58

Zelie is my favourite (don't know how to do accents on my phone, sorry) but I like them all except Orla.

aoibhacado · 23/12/2022 01:02

elodie. or melodie.

KnickerlessParsons · 23/12/2022 01:00

How do you pronounce Zelié?

I know how it should be pronounced, but wondered how it's actually pronounced.

glitterfarts · 23/12/2022 00:58

Nina, love that name.

DotDotDotDotDot · 23/12/2022 00:55

I think you have a good shortlist
Nina - I like a lot, similar vibe to Anna but a bit more interesting IMO
Orla - too close to oral
Ella - so boring I’d cut this from your list
Eleni - I like this a lot, Leni is such a cute nn.
Elodie - nice enough
Zoë - I like, nice meaning too.
Zelie - there’s not many Z names I don’t like, this is lovely. Shouldn’t the accent be above the first e though?

melcalfe · 23/12/2022 00:50

Elodie (wanted to make my baby but had a son)
Nina is gorgeous

Butterbeer4All · 23/12/2022 00:43

Nina
Eleni
Elodie

NoSquirrels · 23/12/2022 00:36

Nina (one of my absolute faves) then Orla.

Marymary987 · 23/12/2022 00:34

Zelié is lovely, a little bit different compared to the others. I also like Eleni.

AkoraEdelherb · 23/12/2022 00:34

Ella or Zoë (would spell Zoe unless different heritage that would support the ë).

GAH3 · 23/12/2022 00:33

Nice list!

Nina is great, quite trendy amongst the hipster crowd, but that's not necessarily a bad thing

Orla got popular a few years ago and I still hear it quite a lot. It's fine, but not exciting

Ella is, if I'm honest, a bit dull, but not a bad name

I haven't heard Eleni before, but I like it. Is it from a non British culture?

Elodie is the only one I dislike - it's very Mumsnet 😂

Zoe is great

Zelie is very cool

How bothered would you be if people messed up/forgot the accent?

CatJumperTwat · 23/12/2022 00:32

Ella or Zoe. Elodie is okay but a bit wet. I don't like the others.

thaegumathteth · 23/12/2022 00:32

Favourite is Elodie

BillLius · 23/12/2022 00:31
