Is it weird to give baby your sisters/their aunties first name as a middle name?

Baby 2 due very soon and I've been set on giving her my sisters name as a middle name for a while, but now I'm over thinking it, is it weird? My sisters name goes lovely with the first name we've picked and my sister is my best friend, has been so amazing with my first daughter and doesn't want children of her own so it feels quite special to me.

Would you find this weird?

My eldest dd has my sisters name as a middle name
Dd2 has my dh sisters name as a middle name.
Dd3 has adult nieces name as a middle name.
They all love it

OldTinHat · 22/12/2022 16:38

No. Not weird.

My DD has my sister's name as her middle name and I'm so glad she has. My sister was not expecting it so was very touched.

Not weird at all. My niece has my name as her middle name. Both DD and I have my mum's name as our middle names. It's a nice family connection,

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 21/12/2022 21:01

My sister named her DD after me! So I think it's fine Smile

Aquamarine1029 · 21/12/2022 20:58

It's weird that you think this is weird. People do this all the time.

Yolanda524 · 21/12/2022 20:56

My eldest has both her first and middles names from both sets of grandmothers though my husband picked the name before realising it was a long family middle name. And the other grandmothers name is also the name of the town where we met.
my middle daughter shares a middle name with my eldest sister who sadly passed away one month before she was born.
my youngest daughter and I share a middle name.
I love the connection in my daughters names and so do they.

Most of my family have a relatives name as a middle name. If we ever had another DD she would have my BFF name as a middle name (she's like a sister to me and DC call her Auntie ...)

Cakecakecheese · 21/12/2022 20:48

My friend gave her daughter her sister's first name as a middle name. I thought it was a sweet thing to do.

Sunnytwobridges · 21/12/2022 18:30

I think it's lovely. My DM loved my dad's sister's first and middle name so much she named me a VERY close variation of it. She was very honored when she found out. So I don't think it's weird at all.

Shunkleisshiny · 21/12/2022 17:03

My niece has my middle name as her first name, I was only eight when she was born, and I remember being really proud!!!

Lcb123 · 21/12/2022 17:00

Not weird, very common and nice!

Enko · 21/12/2022 16:59

dd2 and ds are named after their aunt and uncle with their mn. I love the familiar association. other two are named after great grandparents.

timetogetlost · 21/12/2022 15:54

I did.

Vinylloving · 19/12/2022 19:11

How could it possibly be weird!

Whatifthegrassisblue · 19/12/2022 19:05

That's lovely, I'm sure she'd be thrilled

DancingSober · 19/12/2022 19:04

Both my DCs have family names as middle names. I think it's very normal / common

Headabovetheparakeet · 19/12/2022 19:03

My son has my brother's name as a middle name.

SardineJam · 19/12/2022 19:00

No one "owns" a name. I liked my brother's name so much that I wanted it for DS and I did, I didn't name him after DB but don't really care what people think

toastofthetown · 19/12/2022 18:57

It's not weird, though I would assume you'd named your baby after her.

riotlady · 19/12/2022 18:55

Lovely and not weird at all!

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 19/12/2022 18:28

Very very common in my Irish Catholic family. All our middle names honour a relative.

TheBirdintheCave · 19/12/2022 18:24

Nah this is fine. My cousin is named after my dad.

ladygindiva · 19/12/2022 16:56

Not at all ! My niece has my name as a middle name and I love it and feel honoured ( truth is it's after her grandmother on her mother's side but whatever🤣)

everydaysabeginning · 19/12/2022 14:58

Not at all. My neice has my name as her middle name. I was chuffed and she loves her name. Congratulations
