Love classic names- literally couldn't care less about popularity before anyone comments on that. Baby is coming in less than a month and we don't yet know the sex.

Boy:
Edward
George

Girl:
Eliza
Emily

Edward is nice but I'm not keen on Ted

You must mean Ed. It's Edward and not Tedward Confused

Hilarious
Don't know what to say

bunpot · 18/12/2022 19:27

Not usually a fan of classics but love all of these. I vote Edward and Eliza.

I'm afraid you do get duplicates OP. There is a much broader range of names, yes. Particularly in multicultural areas, but some names do come up time and time again. All of my DCs have more than one Isabelle (if you include the various spellings) Amelia and Alice in their classes. Emily is not far behind. There is at least one Daniel in every class at our primary school. Oscar and Oliver always have their surname attached too. I remember a mother & baby class I went to with 3 newborn Darceys. There were only 9 babies in the whole class and all of the Darcey's mothers were a bit put out as they had thought it an original choice.

Edward and Eliza

Edward and Eliza

EasyLifer · 18/12/2022 14:33

Good choices, I like them all but George and Emily would be my preferences.

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2022 14:32

Edward and Eliza

DuchessOfSausage · 18/12/2022 14:21

Prefer George as it won't get shortened. Edward is nice but I'm not keen on Ted
Of the two I prefer Emily. Not keen on Eliza, but do like Elizabeth.
Emily is ok but I prefer Emma.

Tripsabroad · 18/12/2022 13:49

I prefer Eliza as Emily is an unpleasant sound to me. I really like Eliza.

I like your boy names equally. Prefer Ted over Ed.

But personally I'd wait and see if you think one suits the baby more than the other.

Theoldwoman · 18/12/2022 13:02

I love all four, I love classical names too and mine all have top 20 names and I love them.

Edward
Emily

Purplemagnolias · 18/12/2022 12:43

I have friends who picked Ottilie

If you look at the statistics you will see that Ottilie has been rising steeply recently and has actually become very popular. So it's to be expected to find 3 in a nursery class.

wlv12 · 18/12/2022 12:42

George and Eliza.
All classic, beautiful choices though.

Purplemagnolias · 18/12/2022 12:41

Why would they?

They may not like the need to add a surname initial to identify themselves.

It will also depend on how popular your surname is....

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 18/12/2022 12:26

My advice is not to decide now. Take all these names to hospital with you; it's nice to have a choice between two once baby has arrived. In my experience you'll know what you want deep down / which one suits then.

Purplemagnolias · 18/12/2022 12:14

I know sooo many Edwards, Georges and Emilys. I know you don't care about popularity but your children may...?

Why would they? There are so many different names out there nowadays that even a top 20 name is unlikely to have duplicates in a class. It's not like it was 50-100 years ago. I'm more concerned about picking out names for them that don't date badly, which steadfastly popular, classic names don't tend to.

I have friends who picked Ottilie as they wanted something meek unusual- there are three of them in her nursery class.

George and Eliza would be my choice. I do like Ted (Edward) too. Not so keen on Emily.

Eliza is Victorian Maid to mr too (I don't dislike it but it definitely conjures up that image even though I have known quite a few).

George and Emily are my favourites

17caterpillars1mouse · 18/12/2022 12:00

Edward and Emily.

I really don't like George but I do like Eliza also, just slightly prefer Emily

NuffSaidSam · 18/12/2022 11:58

George and Emily, but they're all good names.

Very consistent choices, I know so many sibling pairs with different combos of these names.

tulipsunday · 18/12/2022 11:55

Edward and Emily are lovely. George too. Don't like Eliza reminds me of a Victorian maid 😂
