I do think Keith Richard first, which is not a bad association I guess.

If you're focusing on his talent and success, maybe; but if I think of his (maybe partly self-inflicted) appearance, it isn't the first thing I'd want to associate a new baby with! Not saying that he looks terrible for an old man, but....

WildCherryBlossom · 20/12/2022 12:37

Who are all these Keiths in their 40s??? I'm in my 40s. I never went to school with a single Keith or knew one my own age. They are all my parents' generation -60s, 70s, 80s.

I do think Keith Richard first, which is not a bad association I guess. Although someone else's description of Keith drinking real ale, having recently retired from s job in health & safety seems fairly apt. He probably wears dad jumpers too. The name itself isn't awful but I think it might need another decade or two before it's ready for a comeback.

There is a little Brian at out primary school. That surprised me.

my parents always used to refer to Keiths as keich, which is a Scots word for shit.

It’s not an association I can get past, however niche.

Now this I did not know, despite many men in my family have Keith as a middle name for generations.

And my family emigrated to Australia from Ellon, near Aberdeen in 1880. You'd think someone would've clocked this by now. Mind blown.

xprincessxjanetx · 20/12/2022 01:45

It was my maiden name, I changed it by deed poll a year before I got married because I hated it so much. Don't do it.

Penguinsaregreat · 19/12/2022 23:22

But Keith IS a Barry name. No better or worse. It is dated. Just as in 50 years Jayden and Kayden will be dated.

Oh, NO. My husband's uncle is Keith, and he's 88

We seem to forget that he too was once a cute baby!

SlippinKimmy · 19/12/2022 22:56

I like Keith! Definitely due a revival, though the thought of little baby Keith is quite hard to wrap your head around.

I remember when we watched the ‘baby being born’ video in Science class, it must have been filmed in the 70s, the woman in it named the baby Barry at the end! Now that’s a name not ripe for revival.

People assume it’s a child named after an older relative.

Why not just get straight to it and name your baby 'Grandad' ?!

I just think that’s what people would generally think. I don’t think Keith is too bad though if I’m honest! And when I was a kid, a name like Elsie or Margot would definitely have been seen as a ‘granny name.’ But now they’re the trendy names in nurseries near me!

Figgypudding123 · 19/12/2022 19:02

Blimey, so much hate for a name! It's not my taste but it's a solid, serviceable name.

I've heard far far pretentious worse names on Mumsnet...

HoHoHowMuch · 19/12/2022 18:53

Keef from Saaaf London.

I have always said on name threads your child your choice, but please please don't do this.

Koifish · 19/12/2022 17:48

I absolutely love it. Also by the time he’s in school the name will be seen as a trendy retro name and you will be ahead of the curve.

Penguinsaregreat · 19/12/2022 17:44

Awful. Dated not classic.

Kanaloa · 19/12/2022 17:44

Plus I think it’s a bit like meeting a toddler Gary/Brian/Alan etc. People assume it’s a child named after an older relative. And as those names become the names of our fathers and grandfathers etc, they will come back into common usage for children.

Kanaloa · 19/12/2022 17:43

Honestly I think it’s alright. It’s dated/old fashioned, yes. But it’s not offensive in any way or awful to wear. I think it’s okay.

itsallgettingonmytitsnow · 19/12/2022 17:23

I know only 1 Keith. He is in his 40's. Oh also he is a cunt.
Please don't do this to your baby.

Marymary987 · 19/12/2022 13:57

I really dislike the name!

faffadoodledo · 19/12/2022 09:54

I know a 17 year old Dennis. He wears it well. And no one even thinks oooooer that's an odd name for a teenager.
If you like it, go for it! Better than a weird unique or made up name.

I think Dennis is cool though. It's still popular in Europe. Keith is marginally better than Kenneth or Kevin. But it still feels dated. Like a man who drinks real ale and has recently retired from the Health
And Safety executive

Like other surname vaguely Celtic names. Douglas and Clifford and Graham and Duncan.

Do that many people say Fink instead of Think, Frilled instead of Thrilled etc?

Many it's a dialect/regional thing?

Yes, it's extremely common - especially in the south-east. However, I went to school with a boy who did the opposite: he couldn't say 'F' and it came out as 'Th' - so "Three, Thour, Thive".
