Hey all,

What do you think of this name for a baby girl?

Pronounced as Cleh-Leah , with emphasis on the first syllable.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Far too much like Cleh-mid-eah.

Also too high a risk of people accidentally spitting while trying to actually pronounce the name.

Celia is nice but sorry Clelia is awful.

GreenManalishi · 14/12/2022 14:49

She won't thank you for that.

Wow! That is pretty insulting to all the Clelias out there. Do you have that reaction to all foreign names?

It's a pretty far stretch to assume I have that reaction to all foreign names now, isn't it? Don't be stupid.

EdgeOfACoin · 14/12/2022 14:46

I appreciate that it's a genuine Italian name. However, in the UK it looks like a typo for Celia. Your daughter would spend her life saying "no, not Celia, it's Clelia - it's Italian".

I think that would get irritating very quickly.

resipsa · 14/12/2022 14:46

I know one. People have managed to get their heads and tongues around it 😊. She's not Italian.

chesterlestreet · 14/12/2022 14:46

I know a few Italian Clelias) pronounced CLELL -IA). It's a nice name which people will hear once and remember

She will be forever Celia. Clelia looks like you're one of those insufferable parents who are as thick as pig muck.

well that's quite the reaction

Hoppinggreen · 14/12/2022 14:44

It sounds stupid and like you could spell.

What's wrong with Susan or Margaret?

TOWIE.

Mariposista · 14/12/2022 14:37

Sounds like a mistake.
Celia and Cecilia on the other hand are lovely names.

Itsoktogiveup · 14/12/2022 14:37

It’s too similar to clit / labia / chlamydia

TenoringBehind · 14/12/2022 14:34

Awful. Sorry.

CovertImage · 14/12/2022 14:30

It's giving me "Magrat" vibes

HiDeDi · 14/12/2022 14:29

As someone with a name that is spelt very differently to how it is pronounced please don’t give your child this name.

if you insist start it with a K so people have at least got a fighting chance of saying it correctly.

Unicorn717 · 14/12/2022 14:29

rubyslippers · 14/12/2022 13:40

It looks like you’ve misspelled celia

I thought it said this when I first read it.

LienD · 14/12/2022 14:26

it's a snake... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clelia_clelia

Hopelessacademic · 14/12/2022 14:26

awful sorry

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 14/12/2022 13:39

Honestly, it sounds like you'd have a speech impediment

This.

It sounds like a made up name.

Aftersevens · 14/12/2022 14:25

I knew an Italian girl called Clelia. I thought it was a beautiful name……..but she was a beautiful girl, so my opinion might be skewed.

rippleraspberry · 14/12/2022 14:23

It looks like it has a typo in it.

I thought you were asking about 'Cecilia' / 'Celia' but spelt it wrong.

VeryQuaintIrene · 14/12/2022 14:20

It's derived from the Roman woman Cloelia who was a total heroine in early Roman history, but yes, does sound a bit medical and genital today, unfortunately.

sevenbyseven · 14/12/2022 14:19

I first assumed it was a typo, then made-up, but I see it's a real name...

I'm not convinced it works well in English sorry. I prefer similar names like Cleo / Chloe / Celia etc etc.
