Hey all, What do you think of this name for a baby girl? Pronounced as Cleh-Leah , with emphasis on the first syllable.

I like it. There is/was an actress in an Irish soap named Clelia.

The bould Niamh! My first thought when I saw Clelia. OP I have met a few older Clelias in Italy in the school I worked in. Elegant name for elegant ladies.

Please heed what people are saying about it looking like a typo for Celia. I have a Josiah and you would not believe how often perfectly intelligent, literate people read his name as Joshua. HCPs are the worst culprits. People glance at the name, see J O S A H, and their brains move the letters around and fill in the gaps to get to the more familiar name.

It is Italian but it’s very very old-fashioned in Italy. I am half-Italian and still get a distinctly gynaecological vibe from it. Sorry OP.

I really like it. It's unusual but pretty sounding :) My guessed pronunciation also seems to be correct. If people can pronounce Cleo right, I doubt they'd have much of a problem with Clelia.

People can choose a name outside of their own language and indeed many of the most popular baby names in England and Wales are neither English or Welsh and still deserve basic respect.

Yes people HAVE been rude. I was a little rude, (poking fun a bit,) and regretted it quickly, and asked MN to withdraw my post. But the fact is that it IS an Italian name, and it will be pronounced a certain way in Italy/Italian families. It will NOT be pronounced the same in the UK.

I am TRYING not to be rude here, but basically the way it looks and sounds when transferred into UK culture does not look and sound great. It just doesn't. THAT is why people are commenting negatively. Some a bit rude I agree. Then again, a few people on the other side are being JUST as rude if not ruder, by calling Brits very rude and derogatory names (in a now deleted post!) So there are two sides to this!!!

It does sound a bit like that. If it's Italian, and an Italian family calls their child that name, it will be pronounced differently. I don't think the name transfers so well in the UK. Sorry @RedRobintweets no offence, I am just being honest.
