Initials problem?

We’ve found a name that we really love, but with the middle name (that can’t change, family name), the initials spell CUM. Is this a problem and should we go back to the drawing board? We’ve literally only got this one name that we love but the initials are worrying me

Yes, back to the drawing board!!

BertaHoon · 15/01/2023 13:21

Oh no, you can't do that. Even as adult they'll get Mr\Ms C U Martin for example 🤣

But thanks for making me chuckle!

Please don't - I went to school with a girl who had the initial VD and a colleague was KGB, both rather unfortunate.

The initials KGB are surely just amusing and can’t see anything embarrassing from it. I wouldn’t mind them.

Lacienay · 15/01/2023 13:07

Dont do it! I have to use initials all the time!

i know someone with the initials NIP and he got bullied so much at school.

They are useful if the first name and surname are duplicated.
That's why I think filler middle names are a bit pointless.

Why bother with a middle name? I've never really seen the point in having middle names.

They're useful for maintaining family connections/traditions. It also gives the child future options.

It's a sticky situation since you love the names so much but I'd add another middle name. Unless you want a child who grows up to be very salty with you.

JaneJeffer · 02/01/2023 21:17

Is that you UCM?

BJ22 · 02/01/2023 21:14

My initials are BJ (+surname)

It slid under the radar in HS but in other groups I got so much stick for it. I found it funny but someone else might not.

Dated someone whose surname was 'King' too... luckily it never got serious 😂

Twoinapod · 02/01/2023 20:49

I think as usual on here people are thinking a bit much about it. I know people with initials that spell out other words, it’s never been an issue in their day to day lives and makes a funny story in the pub when they tell it with friends.

if it bothers you that much add in another middle name to break it up.

Nikla · 21/12/2022 17:45

No, I don't think you can stick to that name unfortunately!

My youngest Daughters initials were "IBJ" for a couple of weeks before I realised

winonarose · 21/12/2022 17:42

It's an absolute no-go in my opinion. It's just not fair on your child

aoibhacado · 21/12/2022 16:42

either add another middle name, or switch the first and middle names.

PMAmostofthetime · 14/12/2022 23:23

Add a second middle name in -
CUKM
CUAM
CULM
CUBM
You get my drift you get to use the name you love and no Initial problem x

fairycupcakes · 14/12/2022 20:09

omg absolutely not, pleaseeeee don’t do this 😳😳

MerryChristmasToYou · 14/12/2022 13:39

At least, CUM is quite spunky! Grin

MerryChristmasToYou · 14/12/2022 09:30

Add another name - Stephen or Sophia perhaps then he or she can be SCUM

wow, that's mean.

panko · 14/12/2022 06:12

Stick another name in

AllyCatTown · 14/12/2022 04:24

Surely just adding another middle name would solve the issue if you love those names?

Iknowhim · 14/12/2022 00:11

Mischance · 13/12/2022 22:20

First rule of naming a baby is not to have a middle name beginning with a vowel.

Yeah! I'd lose the U middle name as it rules out loads of names.
BUM
CUM
DUM
GUM
HUM
MUM
NUM
RUM
SUM
TUM
YUM

Don't use any of these. 😄

MyGrandmaLizzie · 14/12/2022 00:03

Make sure you avoid BUM as well

oviraptor21 · 13/12/2022 23:56

In a former school which used the initials of the teacher for naming classes, one class would have been MOO if the convention had been upheld. The kids all knew though and the poor teacher, who was not of British origin so their parents were entirely blameless, had an additional layer of aggravation to deal with.
