With Ferdie as a nickname. What do you think?

I think of Franz Ferdinand who caused World War I (not on purpose) and the band.

I still think it’s fine and usable but I don’t really like Ferdie.

I really like it. It’s in a similar vein to longer names like Sebastian and Alexander but more unusual.

To me it has a super posh pompous feel like Horatio or Ptolemy or Algernon

There was a baby Ferdinand born to one of my NCT group — the parents were very cool. Mn would have had a fit at all our ‘pretentious’ baby names, mind you.

Purplemagnolias · 15/12/2022 23:23

Unless he's going to be an Archduke I woukdn't.

Yes! It's ridiculously pompous, almost comical!

Dotcheck · 15/12/2022 23:16

Got carried away. I instantly think Fernando- even though it isn’t quite the same

Can you hear the drums Fernando!!?
There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando…

SemperIdem · 15/12/2022 23:13

It makes me think of a grumpy sausage dog, in the same way Hugo makes me think of French bulldogs. So no.

Bimblybomeyelash · 14/12/2022 23:55

I’ve always liked it. I’ve never met one though! I like Roland too, Rolly for short.

I know a middle aged Ferdinand (we’ve always shortened it to Ferdy) and a five-year-old Ferdy. I like it.

Pearfacebanana · 14/12/2022 23:36

Remember Ferdi in This Life??

user1492757084 · 14/12/2022 10:35

Ferdinand is handsome. Ferdy ( or Ferdi ) is super cute.

RuthW · 13/12/2022 21:27

Lovely

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/12/2022 21:25

It’s Ok

Prefer Fabian

StillMedusa · 13/12/2022 21:24

I love it... but that's because my family owned a highland bull called Ferdinand! Grin
So in my head all Ferdinand's should have deep ginger hair (and love carrots!)

KirstenBlest · 13/12/2022 20:01

It's fine but Ferdi is a better spelling. Or Ferdy.
Ferdie looks a bit feminine

UsingChangeofName · 13/12/2022 19:35

Not keen at all. Sounds like a surname to me

Anewhoo · 13/12/2022 19:31

NormaTheWife · 13/12/2022 18:15

My first thought is Ferdinand Magellan.

Yes! And Rio! I like the name though.

Purplemagnolias · 13/12/2022 19:28

Sounds very posh and grand in German.

zen1 · 13/12/2022 18:22

It’s nice - and a bit different.

VinoDino · 13/12/2022 18:20

I love it. There's a restaurant in Paris called Ferdi, named after the owners' son, Ferdinand.

MolesOnPoles · 13/12/2022 18:20

Love it. Makes me think of a Jilly Cooper character, but that’s a good thing as far as I’m concerned.

BlueSuffragette · 13/12/2022 18:19

Not keen on it at all.
