Opinions? Do you know any?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know a 15 yo one, short for Bridget. I like it.

PondintheRain · 13/12/2022 23:36

My mum, about to turn 80. Has always disliked her name, thinks it’s ‘eejity-sounding’. It’s the Irish equivalent of Gladys or any of the grandma chic names that haven’t been revived.

TrashyPanda · 13/12/2022 23:24

It’s a meat pie

TokenGinger · 13/12/2022 22:07

Lol I just caught up with the comments. I can confirm that my nana was indeed an old Irish lady. But I still love Bridie!

TokenGinger · 13/12/2022 22:04

My nana was known as Bridie. I love it. Her full name was Bridget but only ever known as Bridie or Birdie.

ethelredonagoodday · 13/12/2022 21:30

I know one in her 30s.

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/12/2022 21:30

My childminder when I was 5 or 6 was called Bridie. Old (to me then - she could have been anywhere north of 45) Irish lady. I’ve never met another one.

Monkeytennis97 · 13/12/2022 19:20

McMahon. Bridie McMahon (sorry big Partridge fan...)

heldinadream · 13/12/2022 19:20

Hang on - Gobnait? Is that seriously a name? That is really horrible.

Bridie is cute OP.

Sittingonthefence83 · 13/12/2022 19:15

I know a Bridie, she's mid 40's and she's a lovely elegant lady xx

Workerbeep · 13/12/2022 19:13

onefedupmum · 13/12/2022 19:08

@CockSpadget 😂 oh yeah my mistake! Sorry.

Ah now! There's nothing worse than Gobnait. That's in a category of ugly all by itself.

Agreed 😂

Thinkbiglittleone · 13/12/2022 17:40

We have a 16 year old in our family, it's a beautiful name.

LunaMay · 13/12/2022 16:59

I have one in my family, she's 5

My DBs cat is called birdie. Deffo not a human name.

It’s Bridie, not birdie. And it’s definitely a human name, of very longstanding Celtic origin.

Hideous name. Right up there with Graínne and Gobnait. 🤢

In Scotland we eat bridies - delicious with beans

minipie · 13/12/2022 13:06

I think it sounds good in a Scottish or Irish accent where the R is really emphasised but I’m not sure about it in most English accents

Bryony could be an alternative?

America12 · 13/12/2022 13:03

Lovely name , you don't have to use Bridget.

MerryChristmasToYou · 13/12/2022 12:50

I think Bridget's a nice name. Maybe because I know a nice one.

antipodeancanary · 13/12/2022 10:45

I know one, mid 20s and delightful. She's not a Bridget, not Irish nor Glaswegian. I like it, but would go with Bridget to give choice.
