NC because my mum, who is convinced we are having a boy, is on MN!

Please can you rate these names for me?

Anna
Chloe
Clara
Elena
Emilia
Isabelle
Julia
Margot
Rose
Zoe

Baby girl is due in a month and we are struggling to narrow it down! We are looking for an international name which is spelled the same in English and French.

Thank you!

Julia is an old lady name that hasn't made a comeback yet in the UK so I wouldn't. And I don't really like margot although I know it's popular.

The others are all OK, I think I would choose Anna or Elena

palikalie · 11/12/2022 20:11
  1. Anna
  2. Emilia
  3. Rose

Clara, Julia, and Margot feel very old fashioned

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/12/2022 20:08

Zoe is my favourite by some way, with Julia in second and Anna and Maria in joint third - although prefer Emma to the last two, and it isn’t overused right now

Anna - nice classic. Or there is Annelise
Chloe - ok
Clara - nice, popular in the Uk
Elena - done to death in the Uk, so many Ellies…
Emilia - done to death in the Uk
Isabelle - done to death in the Uk. Christabel? isadora?
Julia - nice. Or Juliet, or Julianne/Julianna
Margot - super popular currently in the Uk, so I would at least give her Marguerite as a full name so she has options

Rose - done to death in its various forms in the Uk
Zoe - I like it - I’d go for that
Maria - prefer to Marie

FearofQueefing · 11/12/2022 17:55

Anna is far and away my favourite nn Annie.

urbanbuddha · 10/12/2022 11:59

In order of preference

Anna
Rose
Isabelle
Margot
Clara
Julia
Chloe
Zoe

StrewthMarge · 10/12/2022 11:55

Emilia. So pretty.

Gingersnappy · 09/12/2022 20:12

Anna - everyone seems to love this name, imo it's plain and dated
Chloe - very 2000's, not a huge fan, not the worst name
Clara - pretty
Elena - pretty
Emilia -pretty, very popular rn though
Isabelle - eh
Julia - don't like this one
Margot - cute
Rose - dated
Zoe - not bad, but had a cat with this name
Marie/Maria - dated

Mummyme87 · 09/12/2022 19:57

Love Clara

YouScumbagYouMaggotHeresKevinTheCarrot · 09/12/2022 19:56

Anna- nice but I think it and it's variants are getting very popular (don't know if that bothers you)
Chloe- dated. Sorry!
Clara- nice, was unusual a few years ago but a huge spike in popularity might mean it dates quickly
Elena- Nice, good balance of classic but not too common if that makes sense?
Emilia- overdone.
Isabelle- a bit too popular and already started to date as have any 'belle' variants.
Julia- nice, romantic classic. Middle class vibes (again not sure if that bothers you)
Margot- super popular and I don't get why.
Rose- every child's current middle name.
Zoe- possibly my favourite along with Elena. More modern sounding.

I'm in France and have a Juliette and a Zoé.

I had Rosa, Rebecca, Zelda, Flora, Marie and Marianne on the list.

You've got a great list. I'd take the ones that work best with your surname and see what she looks like 😉

Iamclearlyamug · 09/12/2022 17:48

I have a chloe so I'm biased, but I also like clara 🙂

BiscuitLover3678 · 09/12/2022 17:48

I love Julia as it’s not used much atm. Margot is very popular.

I actually love Elena.

Mittens1717 · 09/12/2022 17:46

My vote would go to Zoe, short and sweet with a nice meaning, really dislike Anna, Emilia, Julia and Margot but the rest are fine

postcardpuffin · 09/12/2022 17:29

I like:

Anna
Clara
Emilia
Isabelle
Julia
Margot
Rose

Though Isabels/Isabellas of all spellings are ten a penny right now, I have to admit.

Of all of your choices, I like Anna and Julia best.

cptartapp · 09/12/2022 17:28

Like Anna, Julia and Zoe.
Meh to the others. Particularly Isabelle. Far too many.
lots of Margots being born. I know four.

Prefer Cara to Clara and Rosa to Rose.

Hadtocomment · 09/12/2022 17:23

All nice. My favs are:

Anna
Elena
Julia
Zoe

Slightly less favs are:
Clara
Emilia
Isabelle
Margot
Rose
Chloe

There seem to be a lot of Amelias and now Emilias. I prefer Amelie, Emily and Emma. There seem to be a lot of Isobels and Isabels and Isabellas too. I love Isobel in particular, but I'd prefer to have a name that wasn't THE name of the moment if it was me. My least favourite is Margot, though I'm probably the only one on mumsnet that isn't quite so keen. I do like Maggie. Anna, Elena and Julia are particularly nice I feel and Zoe has a bit of zest.

Mumofgirls2017 · 09/12/2022 17:19

Anna- classic
Chloe- becoming dated I think
Clara- love
Elena- like
Emilia- not a fan
Isabelle- meh
Julia- classic, like
Margot- not for me. But trendy
Rose- ok, classic
Zoe- becoming dated

antipodeancanary · 09/12/2022 16:16

I would go Maria, Julia, Zoe in that order

helpmenamemybaby · 09/12/2022 16:13

How do they say Elena and Julia? My guess would be El-en-ah and Zhul-ee-aa

Yes that's right. Elena with an almost equal emphasis on each syllable, quite similar to how we say Eleanor in English, and Julia just has a softer J.

Isabelle did cross my mind as being a mum name in France. Probably like Clare in the UK.

Anna - fine
Chloe - #1 in the 1990s. dated
Clara - don't like it - Claire is better but dated in UK
Elena - not sure how to say it in UK never mind France
Emilia - Amelia too popular
Isabelle - works for both countries
Julia - not sure how it would work in france
Margot - not keen
Rose - Roz vs Rows
Zoe - ok

I'd go with Zoe

Elena and Julia are both top 100 names in France!

By contrast, there were only 18 baby Isabelles in the whole of France last year. I like the name but am worried it's like the French equivalent of Janet/Susan/Linda in France now.

Ooh yes Rosa is great

Thepotdog · 09/12/2022 13:57

Anna - timeless
Chloe - a bit 90s to me, I was friends with a lot when growing up
Clara - love Clara, was on my list
Elena - love
Emilia - no! Too many, blends in with all the Amelia’s
Isabelle - nice but a bit done
Julia - another timeless name but prefer Anna
Margot - I love Margot although it seems to be getting quite popular
Rose - I prefer Rosa, don’t know why I just can’t get onboard with Rose. Maybe as it’s done to death as a middle name
Zoe - again very 90s to me but it is lovely

out of your list my favourites are Clara and Elena

bibbiddybobbidyboo · 09/12/2022 13:50

Chloe and Clara are the nicest. EVERYBODY is calling their daughter Margot at the moment, it's very twee in my opinion.
