So that basically…

My top 5 list -

Winter
posie
ceCe
Lux
Loveday

My husbands too 5 list -

Matilda
Jemima
Harriet
Louisa
Hannah

We have both vetoed each other’s list… not sure where to go from here to find a name we even like let alone love….

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
gruffalosbrother · 08/12/2022 15:42

you Can’t call your child Lux or Loveday. they’re just ridiculous names even though I know loveday is real name. I could just about live with Winter but I would let your DH choise

Sprouttreesareamazing · 08/12/2022 15:38

Lux?
What about Pears? Camay?
Palmolive?
Hormones. Please blame them.

dworky · 08/12/2022 15:34

Meh, it's just a name.

Reugny · 08/12/2022 15:34

RaraRachael · 08/12/2022 15:26

Why would you want to call your child after a bar of soap (for those of us old enough to remember Lux)

Your list is daft imo, your husband's is sensible (and your child will thank him in later life)

It appears while the OP has checked the meaning of names she has not checked to see if they are identified with brand names, including old ones, or TV programs, and whether there are infamous people with those names.

I googled every single one of my baby names to check whether there were criminals associated with the name and changed my male middle name because I did this. In the end I had a girl.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 08/12/2022 15:33

Posie is traditionally short for Josephine

Notanotherone6 · 08/12/2022 15:22

You trust your husband to name the child.

KindergartenKop · 08/12/2022 15:16

Laxmi?

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 08/12/2022 15:11

Posie is still twee.

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 08/12/2022 15:07

I used to think Posie was very twee but now I associate it with Posie Parker / Kellie-Jay Keen who is as tough as they come.

One of those name apps like tinder but for baby names?
Would you really call a baby girl 'Lux'??

We used an app called Kinder but there's another one called Babyname.

Didn't really help us as we were trying to whittle down an already very similar list of names, but I imagine it's good if you and your partner need to agree on at least one you both like.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 08/12/2022 15:06

It feels like Astrid gets recommended on every thread

CarolineHelston · 08/12/2022 15:03

It is not like naming a pet or a doll

The child- a person in her own right - has to live with the name and the remarks that it generates. If it is in any way unusual she will have years of having to deal with people's reactions and also to spelling it out and deal with the mispronunciations and misspellings. Which can cause huge bureaucratic complications.

So it's generally best to temper the desire to show how individual and original you are and go for something more socially recognisable.

I like both your lists Smile
Loveday is beautiful and an old Cornish name.
What about
Mirabel

Isadora

Marianne

Miranda

Astrid

Iona

Greta

Magda

Lara

Anneliese

Ooh I LOVE Astrid.

I'm VERY boring traditional when it comes to baby names (think George/James) but I think this is lovely.

Each of you separately go through the top 5000 names from the <a class="break-all" href="//statswww.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/bulletins/babynamesenglandandwales/2021" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">ONS website noting down every name you like. Surely you'll find at least one name in common.

dream28 · 08/12/2022 14:58

What about:
Lacey
Livia or Lucina
I'm not fan of Posie, but Posie and Winter seems better than other choices.

I second choosing old fashioned but unusual names.

Calphurnia88 · 08/12/2022 14:58

FleasNavidad · 08/12/2022 14:40

Isn't Lux cheap bog roll?

Lux is a toiletries brand owned by Unilever that makes soaps and shower gels (presumably amongst other things... Maybe bog roll).

I'm not a huge fan of your list @Callieviolet , sorry 😬

As another poster has suggested, I think you'll need to compromise with an unusual but still traditional name. Perhaps check out names from Shakespeare plays or Greek mythology (as examples)?

Sh4rkAttack · 08/12/2022 14:58

In your situation you let your husband choose.

viques · 08/12/2022 14:55

Find compromises

if Lux is about light then Lucia,Theia,Chiara,Claire

if CeCe is about the letters then find an alternative like Cecelia, Cecile, Cecily

if Posie is about flowers then find a flower name Rose, Daisy

if winter is about a season then find a name from a country that celebrates winter, Freya, Nora, Sofia,Maja

Oh my god 🤣

When we are at the stables and need to actually shout her name, DH just says ‘Belle.’ 🤣

We have a horse- he let me name her 🤣 She is Talulabelle

Oh my god 🤣

LadyOfTheCanyon · 08/12/2022 14:53

Lux to me is soap flakes and the singer from The Cramps ( that's one for the teenagers!)
Loveday - please don't. I doubt she's going to be a Sunday night ITV detective, which is what that sounds like.

Eloise is nice. Or Heloise
What about Nina?
Rae?
Lilith?
Selene?

Callieviolet · 08/12/2022 14:53

superdupernova · 08/12/2022 14:51

Loveday? Loveday???

Please give this responsibility to your DH

It’s a Cornish name. But we aren’t actually Cornish.
