So that basically…

My top 5 list -

Winter
posie
ceCe
Lux
Loveday

My husbands too 5 list -

Matilda
Jemima
Harriet
Louisa
Hannah

We have both vetoed each other’s list… not sure where to go from here to find a name we even like let alone love….

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You have some very oldfashioned names there, which I love - Loveday, for instance, which is Anglo Saxon.

Cece = Cecilia, so also old-fashioned (which I mean in a good way!).

Lux is a name of a character from the Virgin Suicides, but also League of Legends - which direction are you coming from?

His are very "top 10 girls names 2015", but still lean old-fashioned.

So what about more unusual, but still oldfashioned names?

Eloise
Ophelia
Eleanor
Iris
Beatrice
Hero
Daphne
Calypso
Penelope
Esther

I'm team husband. Please pick something from his list for the child's sake.

cherriegarcia · 08/12/2022 16:37

I love the creativity OP , especially Talulabelle the horse 😂

But I think your DH should name your child! Sorry.

JamSandle · 08/12/2022 16:36

Just as support for you too OP, I prefer the names on your list too. Hubby's list is generic and ordinary. Yours have some flair.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 08/12/2022 16:35

For the love of God, the common spelling is Cecilia, not Cecelia.

On topic, yeah your names are not to my taste either. Much prefer hubby's.

FKATondelayo · 08/12/2022 16:34

Just for the counterpoint - all of your names are gorgeous, unusual and have literary and historical associations. Your husband's names are good if you're a 40 year old Tory councillor from the shires.

I know two teenage Lux's - it's not that out there in certain circles.

I googled every single one of my baby names to check whether there were criminals associated with the name

Well that's DS2 fucked because he has the same name as a (very obscure) murderer. Yes I googled, but too late. Grin

JamSandle · 08/12/2022 16:34

Combine them as a first and middle name?

Jemima Lux

sanityisamyth · 08/12/2022 16:29

Team DH on this one ...

Jux · 08/12/2022 16:29

Your choices are rather out there and very 'different for the sake of being different', OTOH you can have a name on a birth cert and call them whatever you like after that.

Waxxy · 08/12/2022 16:28

I love Loveday!

Enko · 08/12/2022 16:28

Go for the unusual but not weird names. So check out names around 1000 popularity dh makes a list and you make one and see if you have overlaps. I don't think you are that far apart.

fairycupcakes · 08/12/2022 16:28

I love Winter and Cece.
Yours and DHs lists are vastly different though so it’ll be a difficult compromise I think!
I think the best option is what a PP has said and choose something like Cecilia which can be shortened to Cece and then you both get something you love.

CambsAlways · 08/12/2022 16:27

I would rather call the baby one from your husbands choices , not a fan of yours

mathanxiety · 08/12/2022 16:25

In the interests of family harmony, I think you need a name that is in the same ballpark as Emily, the baby's half sister.

All of your H's names would go well with Emily, though they're a tad unimaginative.

ShesThunderstorms · 08/12/2022 16:14

Oh I love your list! I actually had Winter, Posy and Cece on my own list!
Posy can be short for Josephine? And I imagine Cece could be short for a few different more traditional names. Maybe try that route? A more traditional name but then shortened to something you like?

Twizbe · 08/12/2022 16:14

I have a Cerys shortened to CeCe.

I asked her what she wanted to be know as at school - her answer was a very clear Cerys.

She's fine with me calling her Ce or CeCe but everyone else has to use her full name - she's 3 and very particular about that.

You can try to engineer a nickname but they tend to sort it out themselves

londonmummy1966 · 08/12/2022 16:03

I know quite a lot of Cece/Ceci s they all have longer names Cecilia, Celia, Cecily and Assisi but they all seem to be able to get people to call them Cece with no problems so it would be a sensible compromise

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 08/12/2022 15:57

You let your husband choose as his are actually names whereas yours are just Sounds You Like.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 08/12/2022 15:56

monsteronahill · 08/12/2022 14:23

In this situation I'd give full control to your husband - your names list would be vetoed by me too 😂

Totally agree. Love day? Ffs this can’t be real.

JuneOsborne · 08/12/2022 15:53

I adore Loveday and think you should work harder to get your husband to see the gorgeousness of it!!

Other suggestions:
Astrid
Margot
Bo
Nina
Etta
Roberta

Just keep on jotting down names you both don't hate. Eventually you'll find the name!

curlymacv · 08/12/2022 15:51

I find it a bit rude when people call names ridiculous or made-up when they are actually either just cultural or uncommon... Sometimes I feel people would be happier if every child was called James and Josephine!

I agree with the other poster saying uncommon but old fashioned, but maybe you'd like nicknamey style names in a similar vein to Posie too?
Winnie, Maisie, Maggie, Annie, Lucy?

Winnie has the option of being Winter too, or a variety of others like Winona, Winifred, Edwina, Rowena...

RuthW · 08/12/2022 15:50

I think I would try and get a traditional name that can be shortened to one you like.

Winifred/Winter
Sienna/Cecily/Cecelia/Cici
Rosemary/Posie

KirstenBlest · 08/12/2022 15:49

@dworky, your name is a big deal. It's part of your branding.

TheSunnySide · 08/12/2022 15:49

Reugny · 08/12/2022 15:34

It appears while the OP has checked the meaning of names she has not checked to see if they are identified with brand names, including old ones, or TV programs, and whether there are infamous people with those names.

I googled every single one of my baby names to check whether there were criminals associated with the name and changed my male middle name because I did this. In the end I had a girl.

This is satire, right? 🤣

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 08/12/2022 15:46

People need to stop telling her to let her husband choose the name.

There are many, many names out there. With a bit of effort they'll find one they both like.
