Parents hate name choice

DP and I have finally settled on a name for DS2, Innes. My parents vocally dislike it and keep suggesting alternatives. Yes, we should just have kept silent on names, but we didn't. There's no real point to this post, it's just getting me down! I don't really want to keep on searching for another name, but it also doesn't feel that nice that people already dislike his name.

When ils declared they hated ds's name many years ago I told them they didn't have to see him then.

Have lots of items embroidered with Innes op.
And matching T shirts for ils.
I am Innes dgm
I am Innes dgf.

It doesn't sound like Anus don't be daft '!

Sopharsogood · 05/12/2022 21:16

Sorry, sounds like Anus. Kid will be bullied.

ILoveShula · 05/12/2022 20:06

Assuming it is a boy, it's fine.

pandora206 · 05/12/2022 19:59

Just say 'Mum/Dad, it's our baby and our choice', then no more discussion.

FeelingLetDownMessedAround · 05/12/2022 19:59

Love love love this name!

It's a perfectly normal name for a boy round these parts (Scotland). I much prefer it to Angus, and there are SO many Anguses amongst my friends and colleagues young children.

I know of one female Innes and she is always being mistaken for a man on paper!

CambsAlways · 05/12/2022 19:55

I’m Scottish too, and I love the name innes but I spell it innez and for me I’d have it as a girls name, I think your parents should keep their opinions to themselves what on earth has the name got to do with them, they have had their chance not their baby

mathanxiety · 05/12/2022 19:54

Ines / Inez is a girl's name.

Innes is a boy's name.

Some posters seem confused.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/12/2022 19:52

You parents don't get a say in it. They've had their day choosing names

Merrow · 05/12/2022 19:46

Thanks for the reality check, you're right, they've had their chance to choose names! I'm just feeling a little vulnerable about the name thing as it's taken DP and I so long to agree on one, whereas it was easy for DS1 (and his name generated no complaints from anyone). Clearly just the pregnancy hormones as DS2 is a very much wanted IVF success story, but I was feeling very sorry for the poor nameless thing, and now that he has a name people that are supposed to love him hate it.

Now to get DS1 to stop his (admittedly cute) passionate defence of Angus.

OP for all the people saying they thought it was a girls’ name they are thinking of Ines I suspect which is a very different name!

Brokenlightbulb · 05/12/2022 18:50

I think it’s a lovely boy’s name. The grandparents are being rude and insensitive.

ContadoraExplorer · 05/12/2022 18:50

Hugasauras · 05/12/2022 18:43

Oh I love Innes! It was on my boy list along with Struan and Fraser.

@hugasauras Struan & Fraser were on my list too - lovely and not too common just now (but not out there either!)

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/12/2022 18:49

It's a great name.

You just need to be be firm and say it's not up for discussion. Tell them they are upsetting you. But end the discussion.

Fleur405 · 05/12/2022 18:45

I really like Innes! I like Angus too but quite a few little Anguses. They’ll get used to it. Meantime they’re being very rude!

midgetastic · 05/12/2022 18:44

It's a surname round these parts

FunctionalSkills · 05/12/2022 18:43

I really don't like it (makes me want a twin with "outs" and a hokey cokey) BUT that's because you've posted here. In really life if you announce after the birth its a done deal and people shouldn't be so rude.

It will also "grow" on people. A friend of mine has a child with an odd name to my ears but it's "him" now so doesn't sound so odd. Just go with what you like.

Hugasauras · 05/12/2022 18:43

And yes it's a standard Scottish boy name, definitely not a girls one here!

ClaudiusTheGod · 05/12/2022 18:43

Ines is pronounced In-ez

Hugasauras · 05/12/2022 18:43

Oh I love Innes! It was on my boy list along with Struan and Fraser.

mrstea301 · 05/12/2022 18:42

toomuchlaundry · 05/12/2022 18:20

How do you pronounce Ines?

Ines would be pronounced "in-ess " and Innes would be pronounced "inn-is"

ContadoraExplorer · 05/12/2022 18:42

Sorry OP but never tell people your names beforehand, someone will always have an opinion and voice it. Once baby is here and named noone will say anything, even if they hate it.

I know a couple of boys called Innes and I think it's a perfectly nice Scottish name, if you both like it, just ignore your parents and they'll get used to it.

IAmTi · 05/12/2022 18:40

Tough if you like it that's all that matters.

Mrsjayy · 05/12/2022 18:40

My Mil hated my Dds name so much she called her Megan for 2 weeks apparently it suited her better !

Choconut · 05/12/2022 18:40

I also thought it was a girls name, but maybe that is because the only person I knew that was called it was on MAFS Australia and was female.
