Bree

Could you comment on Bree for a girl, please? Just Bree, as a full name.

Does it sound contemporary enough or a bit dated? Husband and I seem to always go for names that are a bit past the current fashion, but we don't really mind so much. I'm just a bit curious because its sound fits better into the late 90s or early 00s, I guess, when Brittany, Brianna, Brooke, Bryony and Bethany were popular.

Others on our list are Angel, Annabelle (decided Annabell won't work), Sophie, Chloe, Jenna, Jolie but might take Jolie off due to being too associated with the actress (thanks for suggesting Joely but I don't really like how it looks).

I have never heard of a person called Bree.
I would think of the horse in The Horse and His Boy who is called Bree.
It's ok. It wouldn't make me think of the cheese particularly because it's spelt differently and kind of looks like a name even though I've not come across it before.
It doesn't feel as dated as Brianna and names like that which feel very old and not very nice.

Bree!!! Brilliant. Just needs a brother called Crackers and you've got a post dinner snack all sorted.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 03/12/2022 09:16

Everyone will think it's cheese.

Defiantlynot41 · 03/12/2022 09:14

I know a Sabrina who uses Bree as a diminutive, which is nice, wouldn't use Bree as the proper name though

Lcb123 · 03/12/2022 09:13

I’d only think of cheese. And very American

PortiasBiscuit · 03/12/2022 09:12

Bree was a horse…a male horse.

it’s also pronounced the same way as a cheese..

NeedToKnow101 · 03/12/2022 09:11

It's a bit cheesy

hoipolloih · 03/12/2022 09:10

I really dislike it but it's because I instantly think Brie. I don't find it a pretty name at all. That's just me though!

maddy68 · 03/12/2022 08:55

A bit cheesy ;)

LaLuz7 · 03/12/2022 08:49

Bree is lovely.
But I would consider Gabriella or Brianna as the full nane. It's more rounded and elegant.

And please don't go with Angel. That's an adult entertainer type of name if there ever was one. Just awful.

Like a pp, American and cheese. Not a fan tbh, I like others on your list more. On the other hand, I've, never met anyone called Bree.

Dinoteeth · 03/12/2022 08:41

Smelly cheese, don't do that to your child.

LadyWithLapdog · 03/12/2022 08:39

Too much like cheese. I like all your other choices.

momlette · 03/12/2022 08:36

Breagha is lovely pronounced Bree-a. So is Brianna. Bree on its own doesn’t seem completed somehow it seems like an exclamation of some sort !

TrixJax · 03/12/2022 08:33

American and cheese

Beanbagtrap · 03/12/2022 08:18

Or Aubrey

Beanbagtrap · 03/12/2022 08:18

As a nickname for Brianne or by Brianna.

Spanielsarepainless · 03/12/2022 08:17

...and her brother Edam...

ExhaustedMama68 · 03/12/2022 08:11

I don’t mind Bree as a nickname but not so much a full name (do quite like Brianna)
my favourite from your list is Jenna

lifeinthehills · 03/12/2022 08:11

Brianna?

Overthebow · 03/12/2022 08:10

I’d think you really liked the cheese and wanted to name your DC after it. Nothing wrong with that if you do love cheese.

BishyBarnyBee · 03/12/2022 08:10

Will always be a Narnian talking horse for me.

MassiveSalad22 · 03/12/2022 08:06

I like it! I prefer the look of Brie but that’s extra cheesy. We considered Gabriella as it has so many shortenings, Brielle/Brie being one. I’d go Brielle/Gabriella nn Bree.

We lean a bit dated too with girl names, DD has an 80s name. I think we’re just a bit ahead of our time as 80s name will be back in in 20 years 😉

lifeinthehills · 03/12/2022 08:04

Bree is fine. I'd probably prefer it as a short form of something else, but nothing wrong with just Bree.
