Never three vowels in a row. It's like a terrible round of Countdown.

Just spell it properly.

garlictwist · 03/12/2022 04:35

I work with an Aliyah. She's from the Middle East I think. I'm afraid your version does sound a bit made up.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 03/12/2022 04:25

Not keen, especially with your spelling.

Alopeciabop · 03/12/2022 03:43

I know an Aliyah and it’s a lovely name. Just reiterating because it’s 4am and I’m on mumsnet what everyone else has said, which is that it’s your spelling not the name

Djorkaeff · 03/12/2022 03:29

I know a girl called Aleah. I genuinely wasn't sure how to pronounce it at first.

Proudofitbabe · 02/12/2022 21:31

Changing to a phonetic spelling is chavvy

HairyKitty · 02/12/2022 21:26

It’s looks like a mispronunciation/misspell of the Arabic name Aaliyah (emphasis on the Aa not on the lee)

username8888 · 02/12/2022 21:17

Spelling is chavvy but not the name

ElsieC22 · 02/12/2022 21:15

I would spell it Aaliyah if you’re using the same pronunciation but I think it’s a lovely name

KindergartenKop · 02/12/2022 21:11

@BruceWaynettaSlob hahaha I actually do!

Sipping my cider in a barn as I type.

JustJustWhy · 02/12/2022 21:11

Looks like one of those names where you turned up pissed at the registry office and spelled it wrong.

roseberrycherry · 02/12/2022 21:07

It's a nice name, just not spelled like that.

Jacksfesteringresentment · 02/12/2022 20:54

I think it's a lovely name.

From the spelling I would pronounce it A LEE ah, is that right?

Aaliyah seems to be a different name, pronounced Ali-a or A-lie-a?

I know it's an accent thing, but it grates on me when people put R's in words that don't have them.

BruceWaynettaSlob · 02/12/2022 20:50

KindergartenKop · 02/12/2022 20:11

Is it pronounced aar-leah or uh-lear?

Is this a joke I'm missing? Or do you just have one of those accents that inserts a "r" in every word?

fairycupcakes · 02/12/2022 20:36

As many pp have said what I think you’re looking for is Aaliyah. What you’ve spelt looks very much made up and I can see why your friend thought “chavvy” because of that. Spell it correctly and it’s beautiful. What matters in the end is what you and DH love.

Sandysandwich · 02/12/2022 20:29

Its a pretty name, only ever seen it spelt Aaliyah though

WholeHog · 02/12/2022 20:29

I hear the song "More than a woman".

Singer Aaliyah died in a plane crash.

Your friend is right

FlamingJingleBells · 02/12/2022 20:14

Do you have Arabic or Muslim heritage?

FlamingJingleBells · 02/12/2022 20:13

Arabic: عَلِيَّة‎ ), Aaliyah, Alia, or Aliyah is an Arabic feminine given name. It is the feminine of the name Ali, meaning "exalted".

KindergartenKop · 02/12/2022 20:11

Is it pronounced aar-leah or uh-lear?

johsq20 · 02/12/2022 19:40

Nice but not spelled like that

Kanaloa · 02/12/2022 19:38

I love the name Aaliyah, it’s beautiful. I wouldn’t spell it any other way, I think most people will recognise it and spell it Aaliyah. It’s a pretty name.

MerryMarigold · 02/12/2022 19:35

I think I'd pronounce it Uh-LEE-uh (stress on second syllable) rather than A-lee-uh (stress on first syllable) which is usually spelled Aaliyah or Aliya.

I don't particularly like the Uh-LEE-uh pronunciation though.

How were you thinking to say the name?

BruceWaynettaSlob · 02/12/2022 19:33

There's an Aleeah on Teen Mom TV show.
