Charli for a girl?

rmonroe8 · 02/12/2022 16:25

I have met about 2 female Charlies in the past but they spelt it "charley" but I'm not particularly keen on that spelling

Is Charli spelt this way nice for a girl?

It seems more feminine than Charlie or Charley to me

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It’s chavtastic I’m afraid

Untitledsquatboulder · 02/12/2022 21:42

Spelt like that it just looks illiterate. Nice name though, just needs an "e" or a "y".

Trees6 · 02/12/2022 21:33

Charley is my favourite spelling. I think it’s a cool name. 😎

midsomermurderess · 02/12/2022 21:30

Charli, with a ❤️ for the I. Cute🙃

Purplemagnolias · 02/12/2022 20:14

thought Charles was a boys' name.

But this thread isn't about the boys names Charles at all Confused Grin

It's about the name Charli/Charlie, often used as a nickname for Charlotte or Carlotta.

Op, I think it's cute but would probably use Charlotte Grace, nickname Charli

LimeCheesecake · 02/12/2022 18:49

I have the not popular spelling of a common name. (I have a foreign spelling), it’s a bloody nightmare.

as others have said, I’d go with Charlotte known as Charli/Charlie - leave it up to her how to spell it.

ohidoliketobe · 02/12/2022 18:46

Speaking from personal experience. Please don't lumber you child with a 'unique' spelling. Especially a vowel ending to an 'i'. It is honestly a daily misery trying to spell it out, and I go by my middle name professionally as my first name is difficult to spell, diminutive, and quite frankly - chavvy.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 02/12/2022 18:41

To me it looks like it would be pronounced differently.

Like Charl-ih
rather than Charl-ee

Dmsandfloatydress · 02/12/2022 18:40

Charli is downmarket and you would be doing her a disservice. Like it or not people judge others by their name. Ive heard horrid comments at the school gate about children with perceived to be downmarket or uniquely spelt names. Please do her a favour and call her Charlotte on her birth certificate but refer to her as Charlie . Then she won't be encumbered by your unwise choices. Sorry!

lollyloo88 · 02/12/2022 18:37

Yeah sorry OP it's chavvy.. she would always have to tell people "my name is charli but without the e on the end" it would make her feel silly or at least irritated when people are constantly responding "oh right.."

Reminds me of Charolais cows

Grin I'll never be able to unread that.
Someone said Efa (Evvah) would get said as heifer, so there's the middle name

heymammy · 02/12/2022 17:28

Just spell it Charlie ffs, no need for a "feminine" spelling

That's a lot of aggression for someone you don't know who may name her baby a certain thing. Confused

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/12/2022 18:30

It’s nice short for Charlotte, not so much on its own

BeautifulDragon · 02/12/2022 17:55

I would call her Charlotte.

Far better when she's applying for jobs and her professional life in general.

Charli is fine for a WhatsApp sign off, not so much for a work email etc.

iloveorange · 02/12/2022 17:43

You know the TV show 'Anne with an E'? An adaptation of Anne of Green Gables - the girls spends quite a lot of time clarifying to everyone and their mother that her name ends in E. Because everyone spells it without it.

So your child would the opposite. Charli. Without an E.

I thought Charles was a boys' name.

It is. But you’re the first poster to mention the name Charles.

Middle name will be Grace

I knew a Charli Grace once - it’s fine to spell it this was and yes it does look more ‘feminine’

Charlotte Grace would be nicer imo though with nn Charli (she’d also have Lottie available to her then aswell)

CocoLux · 02/12/2022 17:20

Chuckiegg · 02/12/2022 17:16

Name is nice but will be spelt wrong her whole life.

This. Would you be happy to set her up for a lifetime of 'actually, there's no e on the end'?

Chuckiegg · 02/12/2022 17:16

Name is nice but will be spelt wrong her whole life.

Ohmygoshposh · 02/12/2022 17:15

I prefer Charlie

VejaVagVagina · 02/12/2022 17:12

Ugh, how unoriginal, everyone saying it's a nickname. I think having Charlie/Charley/Charli as a name by itself is acceptable (which it most certainly is according to name websites).

I'm not keen on the "-i" ending though personally.
