Middle name for Stormi?

Having a hard time choosing. I like Autumn and DH likes Rose. But not keen on either as it sounds like a description rather than a name. Open to any and all suggestions

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DameHelena · 02/12/2022 09:42

I wouldn't have a middle name at all with that name; I think it sounds nice on its own with a surname, and pretty much anything would end up sounding like a description.

Mnbvcxz123 · 02/12/2022 09:41

I was going to say, like others, that no middle name would be better. But honestly I feel like this child will want one just so she does not have to do by her Christian name.

Honestly OP, and I mean this really kindly, you are bringing someone into the world who hasn’t chosen to be brought into the world, and where they have to function and relate and work. I guarantee the prejudice (whether snobbery or not) they will receive for turning up at a job interview, or on the first day of school, and saying “Hi, I’m Stormi” will be almost insurmountable. You are severely severely limiting your child’s life chances by doing this. The people they mix with, the expectations or lack there of places upon them - EVERYTHING. There has been so much academic research done on this - it’s not just anecdotal Mumsnet “I hate Jayden/Tyler/Destinii-Rose” attitudes.

Could you choose another “unusual” name that doesn’t sound like a prostitute’s? Doesn’t need to be “Ruth” or “Sarah”. “Autumn” wouldn’t be my pick personally but I think it could be a lovely name for your little girl?

Good luck!

My daughters dog is called Storm. He’s known as Stormy. Sweet natured chestnut working cocker. The name suits him well.

Rose is beautiful.

You seriously sit around the staff room slagging off children?? You do realise what a terrible person (and professional) that makes you. Grow up and act like a proper, decent adult. You're paid to do a job - teach children, teach them well and teach them like equals. End of discussion

^^ gave their DC a yooo-nique name and spelling

Don’t be hysterical.

The PP didn’t say she sits around slagging off children, she said she rolls her eyes at some parents’ name choices.

Names carry associations for teachers because teachers are human like everyone else.

This name doesn’t have helpful connotations and she is simply pointing that you.

whateverthisis · 02/12/2022 09:41

OP as you said you like the 'i' ending as it matches your name, have you considered other names ending in i? Astri is unusual and quite beautiful. Leilani? Naomi? I know it isn't what you asked but given the reaction you have got here, just thought it might be worth considering.

Mrsrasputian · 02/12/2022 09:40

Stormi!! Chavtastic. . Poor kid

You’d be hard pressed to find a staff room in any part of the country (or, in fact, the world) that doesn’t discuss children’s names like this and, in fact, the parents of the children we teach. 🤷🏻‍♀️ And it’s not about slagging off the child as an individual, but just wondering why a parent wouldn’t think of the consequences for the poor child as they grow older!

It goes without saying that those conversations remain in the staff room and do not seep into teaching and all the children are treated fairly and equally. Names, backgrounds or annoying parents don’t impact our professionalism and in the classroom environment there’s no discrimination.

You have to understand that in any environment, professional or otherwise, people make comments about the things that happen around them and, while they aren’t always the epitome of politeness, it’s natural. Please don’t be naive about this and think otherwise. I’m sure you, yourself, have had conversations before about a colleague that did X or wore X or a person that did X.

Lookingbackatme · 02/12/2022 09:38

If you are adamant you are having this name would you consider Storm instead of Stormi? I think it’s vaguely better than Stormi, which will set the child up for a lifetime of constantly having to correct the spelling of her name, not to mention ridicule.

Or use Stormi as a middle name.

thisismylittlebrotherGeorge · 02/12/2022 09:38

The thing is, even if you claim to have never heard of The Kardashian kid called Stormi, everyone else knows them and will think you've named after her. Even your child as she grows up.

Its not a name OP. Its a weather description and if you like changing y's to i's how about
Windi
Sunni
Raini
Cloudi
Snowi

People will make assumptions about you.

I have a pet hate for names that are changed by adding/changing a letter as it makes me think the parents can' t spell, or that they want their child to be so 'different' that they make up a word (which doesn't exist.)

For example, I've seen 'Mai' for 'May'.

It causes endless issues in life always having to spell your name.
And teachers and employers will raise their eyebrows.

I once knew a child called Andromeda. God knows what her parents were thinking.

Mai is a legit name in many cultures. How would anyone know these children don't have ancestry or their parent lived in a different country for a while?

Some of the comments here are genuinely so offensive and judgmental.

People judging others for their names should be ashamed, genuinely.

saffy7 · 02/12/2022 09:37

OP, of course to your face they will say it's lovely as they don't want to upset you. But I can't assure you that when you left they either laughed or said how much they hate the name.

Honestly, have Stormi as a middle name or nickname. The poor kid will be constantly having to defend their name otherwise.

orbitalcrisis · 02/12/2022 09:37

Pussi?

k1233 · 02/12/2022 09:36

Stormi Rayne

jamoncrumpets · 02/12/2022 09:36

Every teacher your child encounters will giggle when they see her name on the register and think 'Well, someone likes the Kardashians a lot'

But yeah, go ahead giving your kid a chav name.

Good luck with the Oxbridge application.

WouldUShouldI · 02/12/2022 09:36

This thread is so sad. Fair enough if you don't like the name but this is a pregnant lady here and some of these comments are just fucking cruel and disgraceful. State you don't like the name or scroll even better just scroll on by there's just absolutely no need for such nastiness!!

spare123 · 02/12/2022 09:35

rain storm?

poor poor child.

They'd be mildly criticising the parents, not the child. Who said anything about not teaching the kids well, or like equals?

Hysterical nonsense.

PlainJaneSuperBrain99 · 02/12/2022 09:34

Don't really care what you call your baby, but I have to thank all the posters who have responded and made me actually laugh out loud. Favourites were:

Ferry-crossing
Wevva
McStormface

Can't remember the last time I laughed. Really needed this today, thanks MN.

JinglingXmasbells · 02/12/2022 09:34

@canyoutoleratethis You clearly can't the idea of teachers commenting on names.

I can assure you too that children's names are discussed by teachers, all of the time, especially if you are saying/ reading them a 100 times a week.

As well as wondering why someone would saddle their child with a 'non word'.

Did you honestly not know Kylie Jenner named her baby this? I honestly don't believe you came up with Stormi with the exact spelling without seeing it plastered all over the internet for the last however many years.
I don't think it's even the name - it's the fact it's going to look like you just named her after a Kardashian.

Course she knew.

I like the idea of Rose or Rae as a middle name. Give the poor wean at least ONE sensible forename so they can drop Stormi as soon as they can talk.

OP I might have taken you seriously if you hadn’t suggested Stormi Autumn.

Brightened up my Friday morning though!
