Middle name for Stormi?

Having a hard time choosing. I like Autumn and DH likes Rose. But not keen on either as it sounds like a description rather than a name. Open to any and all suggestions

OP posts:

I was going to say "night" but saw a post saying Nyte and I think it's perfect! 😁

Stormi is a horrendous name, its up the with Mercedes, chardonnay, ellie-mae etc! Your child ( and you) will be judged by every parent they meet! It's indescribably chav! As a pp said Autumn-Rose is far nicer.

You do realise Mercedes is a fairly common “proper” name in Spanish speaking countries? It’s not in the same vein as Chardonnay etc at all.

I’m not going to pile into the OP as everyone else has already done that but I did need to point this one out.

stickygotstuck · 02/12/2022 08:01

OP, going against the grain here, but I do like descriptive names. Think many native American names. That's what names were supposed to be originally, and I was always mindful of the meanings when picking names for my DC. My DC has a fully descriptive name, not that we set out for it to be so, but those were the names we loved and had meaning for us. A teen now and never an issue.

However, associations are also important. Although people are giving you a hard time here, that should tell you the level of (mostly negative) associations at this time and in this culture.

If you are set on Stormi, would you consider using it as a middle name instead? And perhaps spelling it as Stormy or even Storm?

Autumn and Rose are both lovely. Thinking about it, Autumn Rose is a perfectly nice descriptive name. So is Autumn Storm as far as I am concerned, although I'm probably in the minority here.

As an aside, I doubt people would have been so forthright if you had already named the baby. As it is, they are trying to warn you off.
Which is what name threads do best - saying something you may not have thought about.

FettleOfKish · 02/12/2022 08:01

Stormy Eva

Ooh I know one of these! She's called Eva, not Stormy, but catch her at the wrong moment...

TidyDancer · 02/12/2022 08:00

The thing is OP, people are taking the piss because that's what will happen in real life. They might not say it to your face, in fact they will probably tell you it's lovely and that they love it etc. But I can guarantee the majority will not be thinking that. They'll be polite even when it's a dreadful choice.

I know someone who has saddled their DC with an awful name which has resulted in terrible initials too. No one has said even a slightly critical word to her face, they just nodded and smiled at the bare minimum. But lots of people have gone away and had a reaction of 'they've called the baby WHAT?' and laughed.

People maybe shouldn't judge but the fact is they do, and you saddling a child with an awful (and misspelled) name will not do them any favours.

Does that mean you’re planning to give your child a name that rhymes with her surname as well it’s it being a description of weather?

No. Our surname goes nicely with it. The comment where I corrected myself got lost. It's my first name not last

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/12/2022 08:00

If Stormi is a given (please no!), then maybe give a middle name a miss op? That first name is enough to deal with frankly.

Melstarrynight · 02/12/2022 07:59

It's a pretty notorious porn star name though isn't it?

So is no one going to actually respond to what the thread was for? It wasn't a debate for her first name. And you do realize probably every name on the earth has been used by a porn star? Had to Google just now to see one of the Kardashians named their kid this as well. Not that I should have to explain but my last name ends in i which is why we changed the y to an i. To each their own but I hope you people aren't this awful to people in real life.

Does that mean you’re planning to give your child a name that rhymes with her surname as well it’s it being a description of weather?

caitlinrose · 02/12/2022 07:59

Stormy is actually kind of cute. It's a nice nature name.

But please don't spell it Stormi. It looks misspelt and like an instagram-B-celebrity sort of name.

Stormy Rose is...odd. What is a stormy rose supposed to be?

Stormy Autumn is sort of pretty in a way but I'd rather use a non-nature name in the middle.

Stormy Isabelle
Stormy Eva
Stormy Fiona

Thinking about it...maybe a nature name is better in the middle? Because Stormy Isabelle etc. sort of sound like the name of a hurricane or a person with a very energetic personality. But with nature names it sounds a bit like a fragrance. It's difficult with an adjective.

Stormy Autumn, go with that. Or Stormy Eve maybe? I like nature names but they are harder to pair.

It isn’t snobbery it’s just pointing out what everyone is secretly thinking. These stupid made up bizarrely spelled names make people think the parents are of low intelligence. It might not be a correct assumption but it is the assumption that will be made. It’s a ridiculous thing to call your baby.

Right, so you're actually talking about the name being associated with low intelligence, but you're not being a snob? Ok 🙄
The word chav has been used already, and let's be honest about why the Kardashian's have come into this. It's snobbery. At least be up front about it

Well said OP!! The sheer snobbery on the MN baby names thread is repugnant, but it says more about the posters than anything else. For what it's worth, I have a DD with a name absolutely hated on here (also an adjective), and my child has never had a bad word said to her - her name is universally loved by those that know her, because in real life, people aren't such dicks and they love my child, and her name is part of her. It's only the bullies on here that go on about a child being picked on about a name, I suppose it takes one to know one.

Anyway, back to the point of your thread, I liked the PP's suggestion of Rae. I think you need a short one syllable name to work with Stormi

I mean seriously I just feel bad for these people. No one in my real life gas disliked the name as a matter of fact everyone loves it. I even asked my family if they thought changing the last letter to match my name was off putting and they said not at all. No one pointed out celebrities or porn stars. But honestly are we going to ignore the fact that people use celebrity names all the time?
To answer others questions, yes, I will still use the name even knowing now it's a famous name. And no hate to the ones who said it would sound better with no middle name, but I will definitely be using a middle name. I strongly dislike not having a middle name or just a letter. And again. The post was for middle name suggestions. I won't actually be using Autumn or Rose, as the post said it was more something to stray away from. I'm looking for a more classical name I think. I won't use this one but Elizabeth for example

FettleOfKish · 02/12/2022 07:58

And you do realize probably every name on the earth has been used by a porn star?

I know porn is a huge industry but I sincerely doubt that.

In any case porn stars named 'Jane' even if they do have very high profile connections to ex-US presidents, are enormously diluted by the millions of other normal people called Jane, of whom I'd imagine most Western English speaking people know one or of one in real life.

People called Stormy / Stormi are so rare that (although I don't actually think it's a terrible name) the porn star / Kardashian connection will be indelibly etched onto them. For people already named Stormy it's too bad, but for your baby you have time to change this.

ladydimitrescu · 02/12/2022 07:58

Did you honestly not know Kylie Jenner named her baby this? I honestly don't believe you came up with Stormi with the exact spelling without seeing it plastered all over the internet for the last however many years.
I don't think it's even the name - it's the fact it's going to look like you just named her after a Kardashian.

But you said you were avoiding description names... But are using Stormi, which is a descriptive name. I think you confused people.

the middle name doesn't have to match the first. It will never get used day to day, only on official forms.

PinkHeadphones · 02/12/2022 07:57

If I don’t like a name I don’t usually comment, like why should anyone care whether I personally don’t like a name. (Unless someone asks for a rating of names). And the vast majority of names on here that people say “ugh that’s a word”, “that’s not a name” I generally am OK with.

But, and this is related to your middle name dilemma so I think it is worth saying, even though everyone else has too, Stormi really really doesn’t work as a first name because it describes the second name. Honestly, it is like calling a child Feisty Charlotte or Spicy Marie or Brooding Billy. You know this, that’s why you can’t find a middle name that works.

Theydoyaknow · 02/12/2022 07:57

This is all just a Stormi in a teacup. Give your child a decent name OP.

I was born on a stormy day in Autumn. My name is Stormi Autumn.

Ohhhhhh I see what you mum did there! How clever!

Not.

No need for people to be so horrible about someone elses baby name,

Its not their name yet (thankfully)

But it is a porn star name, so I would think carefully before using it

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 02/12/2022 07:56

I’d choose something more mainstream for the middle name in case they hate the name Stormi when they’re older and want to change it. Rose is a good option of the two you mentioned.

KirstenBlest · 02/12/2022 07:56

I'd go for no middle name, then she can be Stormi Nowt

GlassDeli · 02/12/2022 07:56
