Irene or Rose?

spearmintbubble · 30/11/2022 23:05

Originally we settled on Irene Elizabeth Alexandra, but I nearly have some sort of attachment to Rose. I love Irene but I also love Rose! Whichever one I don’t use with this DD will be used if I ever have another. We love both middle names and will be keeping them the same no matter what name we choose.

Irene Elizabeth Alexandra
Rose Elizabeth Alexandra

Irene. I know about 3 baby Rosies.

LynetteScavo · 03/12/2022 06:19

Reeny is the usual nn for Irene. Rosie/Rose is so much nicer.

ElsieC22 · 02/12/2022 22:22

Rose Elizabeth Alexandra! Definitely!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 02/12/2022 22:10

Rose. Or Iris.

Sprouttreesareamazing · 02/12/2022 22:03

^are you on drugs?

oviraptor21 · 02/12/2022 21:53

Irene is beautiful and elegant.
Rose is a bit unimaginative.

What about Roisin, Irish for Rose? Has similar ‘een’ sound in Irene.

dancingqueen123 · 02/12/2022 09:40

Don't go Rose, it's nice but SOOOOO boring!

dancingqueen123 · 02/12/2022 09:39

Irene Rose?

Thank you for all the replies. I think I like how uncommon Irene is compared to Rose but there’s just something about Rose. I can’t actually come up with any nn for Irene, but for Rose DH likes Rosie.

Irene. Much more interesting. I’d love to hear of a little Irene!

SalviaOfficinalis · 01/12/2022 12:44

Another vote for Iris. I know it wasn’t an option but I prefer it to Irene.

I like Rose too but it always looks prettier written down than spoken. The actual sound “rows” is a bit dull for me.

VenusClapTrap · 01/12/2022 12:44

Irine. It’s a breath of fresh air.

LadyDanburysHat · 01/12/2022 12:38

Irene is an old lady name, and not a cool one that should make a comeback. Rose is boring but a million times better than Irene.

Vienna92 · 01/12/2022 12:35

Rose*

Vienna92 · 01/12/2022 12:35

What about Iris? It’s kind of a mix of both :)
Rosa is beautiful though, also love Rosa!

EmmaC78 · 01/12/2022 12:30

Definitely not Irene.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 01/12/2022 12:26

I'd be happy to be called Rose.

I'd be s-i-g-n-i-f-i-c-a-n-t-l-y less thrilled to be called Irene.

I should also add we have a 2 syllable last name. Irene sounds better with it as Rose sounds slightly short. We love both, DH favours Rose slightly and I favour Irene. Oh and eye-reen, we don’t like the sound of the other pronunciation with our last name.

Oh if it’s Eye-reen then no

I think that anyone who likes Irene these days it tends to be with the original
Eye-ree-nee pronunciation, Eye-reen really is dated

Rose is nice

The OP isn’t asking for opinions on Irene.

She is.

The thread is literally called Irene or Rose

Not necessarily - my DD is a Rose, she's the only one in her year at school (two form entry primary). Quite a few girls have Rose as a middle name, but that's not really an issue. It's definitely not like when I was at school and there were three Emilys in a class, two Victorias, and everyone's middle name was Jane!

My daughters middle name is Rose
definitely prefer Rose over Irene
