Thoughts on the name Wednesday? Always liked it personally from the old adams family movie but dh seems to think it will become more of a 'trend' name with the new netflix show out. Opinions?

Stormi Wednesday...

Dotingmumandgranny · 02/12/2022 15:44

No, it's awful.

TheBirdintheCave · 02/12/2022 15:38

I don't see days of the week as usable names. For me they're not like gemstones, flowers or virtue word-names which have extensive historical usage.

It's made worse by the fact that the word 'day' is right there too, to further the 'not a human name' point, it's so jarring.

The days of the week in English are named after Norse gods.

SunshineAndFizz · 01/12/2022 07:06

Terrible.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/12/2022 07:03

Sunday and Friday aren't uncommon

Wow, I've never come across or heard of anybody called those at all myself. I had no idea they were now in the regular name canon!

Addams family
plus
“Wednesday’s child is full of woe
Thursday’s child has far to go “

Part of an old nursery rhyme , so no from me
setting the kid up to fail

It's a common mistake but the actual wording is "knows no woe". Still don't like it as a name though Wed-nes-day, that's how I have to spell it, lol

The names Tuesday and Sunday seem to be gaining popularity right now so why not?;quick frankly Wednesday is nothing compared to the thoughtless/god awful/chavvy/made up names people name their kids these days.

AlwaysLatte · 01/12/2022 01:01

Would it be pronounced Wed-n-sday or Wensday? Either way it's an odd name. Really weird for anyone not born on Wednesday!

Christmasnero · 01/12/2022 00:37

I absolutely love it and would looooove to call a daughter it, but the association is too strong, the kid has to live with it and it’s beyond try-hard-quirky to name your child wednesday

SparklyMistleToes · 01/12/2022 00:32

You've been watching Netflix again for name suggestions haven't you? Confused

AllyCatTown · 01/12/2022 00:18

I think Sunday is the best sounding day of the week. Plus you can have the nickname Sunny.

I think Wednesday is quite long and clunky.

LargeglassofRosePlease · 30/11/2022 22:47

Nope

Addams family. That’s it.

< hums theme tune to Addams family>

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 30/11/2022 17:46

Why are Tuesday and Wednesday the only day names that people ever use?

Why not Saturday - nickname 'Turd' ?!

Sunday and Friday aren't uncommon

IDontWantToBeAPie · 30/11/2022 22:41

I love it but I really like day names

Gardenerboo · 30/11/2022 22:25

I like it a lot.

Kanaloa · 30/11/2022 22:22

I think it’s cool for a character on TV but a bit much for a Tesco cashier.

Plus I always think it’s a bad idea to use a name that’s just been used on a popular TV streaming service.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 30/11/2022 22:19

It is not a good name. Hump day!

I actually love Sunday though. Much nicer sound and feel.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/11/2022 22:13

It will

I wouldn’t

CryCeratops · 30/11/2022 21:31

It does make me think of the Adams family, that’s the only Wednesday I’ve ever heard of. Plus there’s the whole day of the week thing.

The sound of it is fine but I find it difficult to see past those connotations.

TheMatriarchy · 30/11/2022 21:28

Good pets name

HahahaBoomBoom · 30/11/2022 21:25

I love it. But then I also love Sunday, which seems to be on a lot of folks lists/a celeb baby name.

Moonatics · 30/11/2022 20:22

Fenella123 · 30/11/2022 19:49

Suspect like with any unusual name, the trick is to put it down as a middle name (even if it's used as the "real" name) so it's easy, later on, for the kid to decide that they're "Lily W. Smith" rather than "Wednesday Smith" if they think the situation merits that.

Yeah or a plain middle name that they can use instead.
Either way is an option.

Whitewolf2 · 30/11/2022 20:12

Would you really want to be an adult called Wednesday?

LynLynette · 30/11/2022 20:04

My friend was a goth when we were teenagers and people used to call her Wednesday to pick on her and harass her.
