Honour is lovely. I don't think Amorae or Monroe go with Honour.

How about:
Aurora
Amara
Aubrey
Emelda
Arabella
Marissa
Marina

Spookypig · 27/11/2022 23:28

Honour is classy and beautiful and Amorae and Monroe are just the opposite of both of those things. Amorae in particular is especially bad. Is is made up? I’d feel very sorry for Amorae or Monroe, having a sister with a beautiful name like Honour, and then they’ve got lumbered with these names! Poor kid!

Happymama24 · 26/11/2022 21:53

I used to know a boy called Amaury pronounced a-more_ee

Chastity?

Good God nooo!

Why would you name a daughter after a sexist antiquated concept of purity that's been used to subjugate women under the guise of religion?

Bobbybobbins · 26/11/2022 20:45

What about Marnie, Amira, Mari, Lyn, if you want something related to Marilyn?

RosesAndHellebores · 26/11/2022 20:43

Apologies, I don't know how that happened. Their sisters are called Belinda and Diana respectively. Probably outed myself.

Honor is lovely. I think the following go with it:

Girls: Cicely, Lavinia, Verity, Artemis, Daphne

Boys: Hector, Magnus, Ruaridh, Xavier

RosesAndHellebores · 26/11/2022 20:39

OP I know two Honors. They are 70 and 76. Their sis

louderthan · 26/11/2022 20:35

Chastity?

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 26/11/2022 20:31

Amory?? this is lovely. It sounds similar to your spelling but is not so open to mispronounciation?

TellMeWhere · 26/11/2022 20:28

When the moon hits your eye, you'll regret it OP.

LittleBearPad · 26/11/2022 20:26

I’m sorry they are dreadful.

icecreamplease · 26/11/2022 20:22

And for the record, only one person has ever mentioned Marilyn in response to her name & even then it was a positive link.

MarmaladeFatkins · 26/11/2022 20:22

Amorae makes me think of moray eels
I like Munroe

icecreamplease · 26/11/2022 20:19

Hi op,

My daughter is named Monroe and we think it is an absolutely beautiful gender neutral name. We have received a lot of positive reactions when introducing our child and explaining the meaning behind it. It is fairly unusual where we live but we love it and so happy we decided to go with it.

If anyone is worried about it being too "out there" I have known plenty of people with more 'traditional' names that wish they were named something a bit more unusual and vice versa. People have such varied opinions on names, so just go with your heart.

No I don’t actually, I live in England so the go to is Honour. Very unusual name here and only the oldies associate the name with Honor Blackman.

The go to is not Honour. I’ve taught a few and actually considered it for my DD (who is Hester which I think goes well with Honor as they have that Puritan thing going on) Honour just looks wrong.

scottishnames · 26/11/2022 19:29

I'm sorry, OP, but please don't use Amorae unless you want to look illiterate. That's fine for you if you choose, but much worse for a child.

Amor is a Latin noun, it means love. Grammatically it is masculine .(Latin, like French etc etc and many other languages, gives male or female identifiers to words. Like it or not, it is a fact.)

In Latin, the 'ae' at the end of a word is grammatically feminine, and, when used as part of a a gramatically feminine word, it means 'of' or 'belonging to', or a plural. But the 'ae' ending is only used on 'female' words. So adding it to a 'male' word like Amor is just wrong. It's like saying 'she's a fine boy, he is'. Or 'That's her sweater; it belongs to him.'

Amore is a modern Italian word for 'love'. NB the spelling. It is 'amore' NOT 'amorae'. www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/italian-english/amore

Google tells me that 'Amorae' is the name of one or more wedding-dress shops.

very strange that this is offence to you haha

Joke. Haha.

HonoursMummy · 26/11/2022 17:28

Gingersnappy · 26/11/2022 16:53

I like this suggestion!
OP, I'm not a fan of Amorae, but like said above, I do like Emori instead a lot and i think it sounds nice with Honour
Monroe isn't terrible imo (I live in the states, "out there" names seem to be more forgiven here), however yes she'd always be linked to Marilyn Monroe
If you really like a name, then disregard what everyone else thinks and go for it. It's your kid after all

yeah no one has put me off the names haha! i like this ive never heard of this name before.

schoolsoutforever · 26/11/2022 17:03

What about another name that has a clear ‘trait’ or ‘attribute’ meaning ( I know that there is a name for them but I can’t think of it!
Suggestions:
Faith
Patience
Hope
Temperance (wouldn’t be for me cos wine)
Felicity
Verity
etc

Gingersnappy · 26/11/2022 16:53

Soubriquet · 26/11/2022 15:20

Prefer Emori. Sounds similar but not quite as bad

Well you should have made that abundantly clear from the beginning then shouldn’t you. So NOT okay. We aren’t mindreaders ,okay? Just people trying to save your children from a lifetime of name embarrassment. Okay?

(flounces from thread, slams door, returns to thread, leaves, slams door a bit louder)

very strange that this is offence to you haha

Amore will forever be assosicated with the song...so no

Nobodyyou · 26/11/2022 15:24

Sound like pornstar names. Just NO.

Soubriquet · 26/11/2022 15:20

Prefer Emori. Sounds similar but not quite as bad

Crankley · 26/11/2022 15:19

Both hideous. Change your own names if you like them so much. Why would you do that to a child you're supposed to love?
