The name Erin, I dislike it, it is my wrongness

I have a problem with the name Erin. It does something strange to me. Objectively it is a normal kind of name but when I hear it, it makes my scalp tingle. I know this my fault; I have nothing against the name. Does anyone else have this kind of thing? I don't mean like when people say the name Margot reminds them of maggots. I have no time for that nonsense. This is a visceral thing.

I once met someone with synaesthesia who said that the name Margaret tasted of mangoes to her. What does it do for you OP?

I don’t have synaesthesia, although I love the word “curmudgeon”, it’s like toffee in the mouth. But that’s the only word I have a reaction to.

@LucySno , I don't like th names either. I's ok if at the end and there ar other consonants, Like in Elizabeth or Ruth or Dorothy, but Thea, Theo etc thound tho lithpy

I can't imagine a gaeilgeoir (fluent Irish speaker) calling their daughter Erin. It has an Irish root but has come back to Ireland as a first name from America. Like Shannon (name of an Irish river). Or Colleen (Irish word for 'girl').

Erin Is the anglicised version of the Irish word eireann ... which is the Irish for Ireland. So definitely not American

Names that end in Th give me bad vibes. A nice couple called Kenneth and Elspeth? No, they would murder you as you slept and feast on your brain.

I think I know what you mean. I hate the name Nathan. It gives me a horrible fuzzy feeling. Also Ethan and Nathaniel are nearly as bad. It's the "th" but also the names overall. Shudder.

irish descent. I have two cousins and a niece called Erin. We are English though. Perhaps it’s for the English people who wannabe Irish?

Erin is one of my least favourite names.

I feel like this about Phoebe. It doesn’t even sound like a name. FEE BEE.

I have synaesthesia too in that all names have colours to me.

I'm also Irish and am yet to meet an Erin. I know it's a popular enough name these days in Ireland so I'm guessing the majority of Erins are young kids.

I love it and it was on my short list for DD. Eimear is a name that makes me shudder but I think it's because I've met so many horrible ones. Nowadays Erin makes me think of the daughter in blue bloods .

Erin is an Irish name
We have Erin's in our family, Niamhs, etc (Irish family)

I love their names. It feels a bit uncomfortable to single out a name like this
Erin literally means Ireland 🇮🇪 and is pronounced Air-rin

OP has made it quite clear it’s not about the name itself and instead is a visceral reaction. Very likely to be synaesthesia. And even if it wasn’t...people are allowed to not like stuff.

I feel like that with the names Seth and Silas. They just give me thoughts of sly and untrustworthy. Or sleekit, as we Scots say.

no idea why as I’ve never met any one with either name.
