The name Erin, I dislike it, it is my wrongness

I have a problem with the name Erin. It does something strange to me. Objectively it is a normal kind of name but when I hear it, it makes my scalp tingle. I know this my fault; I have nothing against the name. Does anyone else have this kind of thing? I don't mean like when people say the name Margot reminds them of maggots. I have no time for that nonsense. This is a visceral thing.

I have this with a lot of names containing th such as Martha and Nathan. It's almost as though felt or cloth is being rubbed against my teeth. Very clothy names 😂

Rockmehardplace · 22/11/2022 22:13

Arthur. it makes me feel physically sick. there is absolutely no logic to it, and i know an adorable little Arthur. its a yellowy colour, which doesn’t help with the nauseous feeling.

Longdarkcloud · 22/11/2022 21:39

Evangeline to me is a darkish Green— a bit like rhododendron leaves

Longdarkcloud · 22/11/2022 21:37

I’ve got colour synaesthesia but I can’t say it’s put me off many names, though it does add to the attractiveness of some.
Its basically the sounds that I dislike — for example Archie is like finer nails on a. chalk board.
Names and words like Slough, Silas, scum, slither etc I find distasteful.
And the harshness of the the g in Agatha, Agnes etc.

The name Rebecca I have always found sort of... soggy. And makes me think or biscuits for no reason I can fathom Biscuit

Dreamingcats · 22/11/2022 20:57

Also Elspeth, Paula and Caleb.

MerryChristmasToYou · 22/11/2022 19:57

@JaneJeffer , that was the popularity in English & Wales, not the UK.

Because of it being phonetic, and probably being similar to the popular Elin, it gets used as a Welsh girl's name.

Dreamingcats · 22/11/2022 19:57

I do, with Maeve. I hate it, it sounds so awkward and unfinished.

My DD's name is Evangeline - what colour would that be, do you think?

It’s a golden colour for me

JaneJeffer · 22/11/2022 17:23

That's interesting I wouldn't have thought it was so popular in the UK @MerryChristmasToYou

MerryChristmasToYou · 22/11/2022 15:46

@JaneJeffer , it's been a lot more popular.It peaked in 2006 at #28

Bournetilly · 22/11/2022 15:43

I don’t mind the name Erin but I feel like this about the names Sophia, Oliver and Isla, so it’s understandable.

JaneJeffer · 22/11/2022 15:39

I've just seen Erin is at 49 in the top 100 girls names for 2022

romdowa Margeret tastes like nougat to me.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 22/11/2022 15:34

I don't really have synaesthesia but the book title Lorna Doone tastes and looks like homemade Victoria Sandwich with buttercream and strawberry jam. And the word split feels like cream cakes.

I also have a visceral reaction to the sound of wind chimes- an uncomfortable scalp tingle.

CustomerService · 22/11/2022 15:33

romdowa, I did not know this before, thank you.

I went to school with lots of Erins ( catholic school in England in an area with a high Irish population). They were all snotty little tell tales with awful stuck up judgmental mothers and for these very irrational reasons i think its an awful name Confused.
