The name Erin, I dislike it, it is my wrongness

I have a problem with the name Erin. It does something strange to me. Objectively it is a normal kind of name but when I hear it, it makes my scalp tingle. I know this my fault; I have nothing against the name. Does anyone else have this kind of thing? I don't mean like when people say the name Margot reminds them of maggots. I have no time for that nonsense. This is a visceral thing.

Evangeline to me is a darkish Green— a bit like rhododendron leaves

Same here.

fairydustt · 04/01/2025 13:06

I hate the name Erin, but only because I have an ex friend who is not a nice person called Erin haha

Chooksnroses · 03/01/2025 22:09

Sorry, I meant to quote the person talking about Nathan Nathaniel and Ethan. They make me rub the side of my face ( and yes, I know it’s weird!)

Chooksnroses · 03/01/2025 22:05

Are you me?

NoiseDrama · 01/12/2024 19:54

Esme 🤮 it’s just gross

Peter & Martin

Both make me irrationally irritated. I know it's nonsensical. I wouldn't act upon it!

I dislike both, also.

Longdarkcloud · 27/11/2024 22:30

I have synaesthesia. I was about 50 before I read an article and realised it was a “thing” and not everybody saw letters, words and numbers in colours.
A name that distresses me is Archie. It’s like nails on a chalk board.
BTW synaesthetes who see music etc can find it disabling a bit like being dazzled or maybe having a fit.

Pinkyhere · 27/11/2024 13:57

SweetyGreen · 22/11/2022 13:35

OP, do you have any other signs of synaesthesia? Google it - fascinating.

Yes was going to recommend the same. I have synaesthesia in a different form.
It's fascinating.

Even sometimes spellings make me dislike or like a name

I quite like Lily but hate Lilly.
i like Laila but hate Leyla and Leila.
Love Izabelle. Don’t like Isobel

Yes I'm the same, like Lily but hate Lilly, like Holly but hate Hollie, like Isabelle but hate Isabel and Isobel, loads more

MrsGusset · 26/11/2024 09:54

Not synesthesia but I get a strong reaction to the name Dora because,,,

In the pre-politically correct days of the 1970s a friend joined a slimming club. Each week the member who had lost the least amount of weight was presented with a little statue of a very obese woman. They called this ornament Dumpy Dora. The lucky recipient had to take Dora home and by putting her on display be shamed into doing better in future.

Friend loved her food & was a real scoffer so Dora almost took up permanent residence and I came to know her well.

50+ years later & I still cannot hear the name Dora without the word “Dumpy” jumping into my head.

Even sometimes spellings make me dislike or like a name Same here, and some names look pretty but don't sound nice.

I agree with you on Lily/Lilly
Like Leila and Laila but not Layla
Izabelle is awful. Isabel is nicer than Isobel.

Not a name but the word pamphlet. There's something really wrong about it.

The words figure and Precinct terrify me.

MidsummerMimi · 25/11/2024 15:14

So intrigued to read this, I thought I was the only one.
The name Maya/ Maia ( the versions that sound like the end of Jeremiah,) cause a very unpleasant sensation in the muscles of my face. It’s a totally involuntary, physical reaction.
I have synaesthesia, so some words have colours and tastes.
I also have difficulty with the name May, the name makes me experience the taste of cold. rice pudding.
I am absolutely fine with the name Mia.

The name George makes me picture a big wobbly jelly.

Longdarkcloud · 23/11/2022 14:16

The name Blair to me sounds too close to the noise one makes when gagging.

threecupsofteaminimum · 23/11/2022 09:15

That was for halloween, I forgot to change it back! Thanks for the confidence boost.

Muddays · 23/11/2022 04:56

@threecupsofscreams you're probably right to be a tad wary of aura readings considering your username here; it's not exactly tea and cucumber sandwiches with the vicar is it?

mumonherphone · 22/11/2022 22:43

I have this a little bit with the name amelia. Makes me think of mealy/ mealworms. I also understand it's my own weirdness and objectively amelia looks like a pretty girls name. Love Erin!

soulinablackberrypie · 22/11/2022 22:40

Interesting. I don't have many of that sort of seemingly random associations with names, but I do have one with Erin! When I was young there was a brand of dried ready meals called Erin. So the name kind of reminds me of those old-fashioned instant curries you made up with boiling water. Also Selina makes me think of vegetables being strained through a colander - no idea why.

AnotherNC22 · 22/11/2022 22:18

Well my DD is Erin so i love it ❤We are Irish DH and me English living in the UK. But there are plenty of names i dont like that others will love, so i'm not really sure what the purpose is in starting a random thread about it? Confused
