Katharine

LittlemissMama67 · 30/11/2022 11:34

I straight away went to Lucy.

from your list Amelia

Mumofgirls2017 · 28/11/2022 11:44

Olivia

My name was very popular for a short period. If I told you what my name is, you could guess which decade I was born. It peaked for four years and I was born in one of those years.
One of the things I liked about both Alexander (Alex) and Katherine (Katie) was that neither of them would define our children in that way.
They are both flexible names.

We have an Alexander (Alex) and Katherine (Katie) was on our shortlist, though we didn't use it.

We liked the idea that there has been both an Alexander the Great and a Catherine the Great.

I love your thinking. We also love the connection to Alexander the Great

Thank you all. He is an Alexander but we always call him Alex

Lucy is lovely but have a close friend with the name.

Emily goes really well with Alex.

soulinablackberrypie · 25/11/2022 18:55

They are all good names, but Emily and Charlotte are my favourites. Is Alex's full name Alex or Alexander? I think that would make a difference to my choice, as Katherine (I slightly prefer it spelt with a C, but it's nice either way) would be a good match for Alexander, having lots of different short forms and a sort of regal feel, whereas if it's just Alex I might choose one of the shorter names like Emily. Personally I wouldn't choose another name beginning with A, but I'm aware that not everybody has a thing about that.

My name is really unusual and I hated it because it never appeared in books or bracelets in shops. Sounds superficial but you are as an eight year old. Also people always mispronounced it. I do like it now but it too me years to like it so not too bothered about having a popular name.

Yes open to other suggestions. I like Lois, Anna and Beth

Haha, mine too! I also went for popular/known names as a result.

I like Katherine and Charlotte.

What about Lucy? (Meaning light)

Alex and Laura
Alex and Eleanor
Alex and Elena (less likely to be on named items though?)
Alex and Rebecca
Alex and Kim (Kimberley)
Alex and Rachel
Alex and Stephanie

PauliString · 21/11/2022 13:31

Charlotte or Katherine.

But if this matters 'My name is really unusual and I hated it because it never appeared in books or bracelets in shops' -- go for Charlotte. There are so many spellings of Katherine that it might be hard to find the right one.

pinkpotatoez · 21/11/2022 13:29

I know 10+ Emily's, not a huge fan of it. Ava and Amelia are best imo although still very overdone

Theoldwoman · 21/11/2022 13:24

Charlotte

BrassyLocks · 20/11/2022 21:30

Alex and Amy

Alliolly · 20/11/2022 21:27

We have Alexander and are considering Isabella. I don't love it, but it's the only name we kind of agreed on so far

DuchessOfSausage · 20/11/2022 20:44

Emily - ok
Charlotte - ok
Katherine - best
Olivia - so many of them. Al & Ol
Amelia - not keen, too popular, a bit matchy-matchy
Ava - don't like it at all

staybyyou · 20/11/2022 19:58

My first thought was Annabel.

I like Charlotte best out of your list.

Cotswoldmama · 20/11/2022 19:48

Josephine or Josie

Does popularity bother you as literally every other girl is called Ava, Amelia or Olivia. All the Olivia’s are known as Olivia P, Olivia G etc when my DC talk about them at school.

SuperheroBirds · 20/11/2022 18:59

I like Katherine and Charlotte from your list.
my other suggestions would be Phillipa, Anne, and Elizabeth (although, I suspect this may now become overdone in memory of the Queen)

Whiskeypowers · 20/11/2022 18:45

From your list I like Ava
none of the others

if you’re open to other suggestions how about

Lucy
Anna
Juliette
Hannah
Inez

toastofthetown · 20/11/2022 18:43

Alice and Alex are way too similar. I have a friend called Alex and she is always introducing herself with an emphasis on the x, and still people hear it as Alice half the time.

The names (other than Katherine) are all popular now and none of them have any issues being used alongside Alex. My favourite would be Katherine if she was known as Kitty (but I don't like Kath(y) or Kat(i)e). Why not keep an open mind and see if one name suits her more when she's born?

SortofChandra · 20/11/2022 18:41
