Girls' versions of boys' names

We'd like to give our soon-to-arrive new baby a middle name after a member of DH's family. But the two family members that we would like to name a baby after are men, called David and Jacob, and new baby is (probably) a girl! I can't think of any half-decent feminine versions of these names.... Davida and Jacoba are just a bit naff!

Anyone got any inspired thoughts? Apart from hoping that baby turns out to be a boy!

Judy Blume used Davey for a girl in Tiger Eyes, cant remember what it was short for but it was the feminised David

chipmonkey · 13/02/2008 22:48

I knew a Davida once.

Thanks to you all for...

a) the quick responses
b) the pretty good serious versions (will run them all by DH)
c) the good giggle at the silly ones!

Just had a random thought pattern thinking about a Welsh version of David (don't ask me why I'm thinking about Welsh names), Dafyd which led me to Daffy... and onto Daphne.

Jacob is a bit harder to feminise!!

GetOrfMoiLand · 30/01/2008 13:58

Davina or Jacoba (that is apparently the female hebrew version of the name Jacob)

Jacqueline or Jacquetta? or even Joanne if Jacob is similar to John.

Daisy for David?

Astrophe · 30/01/2008 13:32

Jacob has the same route meaning as James - so maybe Jamie?

Anna8888 · 30/01/2008 13:32

A friend of mine ended up with Albertine as her middle name, after her godfather Alberto...

Iklboo · 30/01/2008 13:32

What about another language form of those names instead - are there any?

You could always settle for a combination - Jacovida!

(not taking the wee wee!)
