Family members not fond of name choice - any experience with this?

We find out the gender next week.
First mistake I probably made was to tell our family some name choices and not everyone seemed keen.
Our top boy name is Nathan. Some people have turned up their nose on that name and think it’s a bit out dated.
We are still 99% sure we will be calling our baby (if they are a boy) Nathan but now I feel a bit anxious about it

Part of the reason we didn't find out the gender and totally the reason we didn't tell anyone our name choices before baby arrived either!

Family still were a bit sceptical of DC1s name even after baby arrived and we'd told everyone their name - but hey didn't say anything because we had already used it. In time however they have grown used to it and now the toddler has taken ownership of their own name it's all good.

Not had experience of this as we didn't tell a soul our name choice until after they were born!

If they keep on about it then I'd either say you're sticking with that name or just say you're not sure what the name will be then call him Nathan anyway!

Don't tell them your girl's name! Either say you're not sure yet or say you're not telling anyone and stick to it! ☺️

I also agree that Nathan is a lovely name. And congrats on your pregnancy!

The only response that is appropriate to a name choice, IMO, is 'oh, lovely'. Your family are being twats.

You definitely made an error telling anyone, but now you can keep quiet about it and if they say anything else you can ask them to respect your choices. Would you say they are reasonable people or generally a bit bullying?

Your baby, your choice. Go with it if you like it.

It’s a lovely name, stop telling people it’s very rude of them to comment but people can’t help themselves.

Ignore them and don’t discuss names again until baby is born and you announce the name.

It's your choice, if you like the name then have that name. The choice is not down to family.

Nathan is a lovely name.

You're never going to please everybody all of the time so just go with what you like!
