What does anyone think of mona? Middle name not decided yet. I dont make the "moaner" connection but I worry other people might!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Didn’t think “moaner” but did think Mona the vampiiiiireeee!! (I was a child in the 2000s) I loved the programme so no qualms with the name at all! but as others have said, to avoid “moaner” what about using Ramona instead?

Doowop1919 · 11/11/2022 20:03

Also don't like it. But my best friend is Italian and it doesn't have a nice meaning in Italian 🙈

Berlinlover · 11/11/2022 19:57

My brother had an imaginary friend called Mona when he was three 😂

caitlinrose · 11/11/2022 19:53

I think it's cute. Go for it!

Gummibär · 11/11/2022 19:47

If you don't have an English accent Mona doesn't sound like Moaner at all...infact I've only made the connection after reading this thread!

Exactly. I pronounce Mona without any a sound so nothing at all like Moan-a!

I think it's a beautiful name.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 11/11/2022 19:39

I know an American one and it sounds much nicer in an American accent.

FayCarew · 11/11/2022 19:16

@BedTaker , because the Monas aren't english, so don't say it as moan-uh

margotsdevil · 11/11/2022 19:12

It's definitely an accent thing - I don't understand how Anna can possibly become Arna 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've known a couple of Monas (one Scandinavian interestingly) and they are both lovely so I'm a fan! Scottish though so no moaner connotations...

BedTaker · 11/11/2022 19:08

How can you not make the 'moaner' connection?!

But aside from that, I first think of Friends (what was wrong with Mona? Grin), then Craig McLachlan, then the painting.

There are just too many connotations, it's a no from me.

FayCarew · 11/11/2022 19:05

I know a few Monas and never thought Moaner

JessesMum777888 · 11/11/2022 18:48

Didn’t someone from neighbours sing a song about mona and building a house next door ?

Yet say you don’t make the connection but you said it first OP, it’s a moany name. Very old fashioned too.

GlassDeli · 11/11/2022 18:45

It does remind me of moaner, sorry. I also think everyone will make Mona Lisa quips and think how original they are Hmm

PinkSyCo · 11/11/2022 14:18

I don’t really understand how you can say Mona without thinking ‘moaner’.

Northern Irish/Irish/Scottish/American all "roll their Rs"

Stevie6 · 11/11/2022 15:34

Ramona and still The Moaner

TeapotCollection · 11/11/2022 14:06

Haaaaaaaaay Mona. Ooooooooooooh Mona

Old (ish) song by someone who used to be in Neighbours, can’t remember his name

Craig McLachlan - was my first thought too

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/11/2022 14:43

Ramona is nice tho

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/11/2022 14:43

Tell me you are joking

Mona the Moaner

Its awful

Orangio · 11/11/2022 14:41

I don't get moaner, because in my accent that sounds different to Mona. It's a nice name!
If you're bothered though, Rona? Morna? (though possibly people from some areas of England think that sounds the same as mourner 🤣). Maura?

NashvilleQueen · 11/11/2022 14:32

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 11/11/2022 14:28

Mona the Vampiiiiiiiiiiire!

emmathedilemma · 11/11/2022 14:26

sorry, but it's awful

MrsR87 · 11/11/2022 14:26

it really only conjures up “moaner” for me and also Mona the vampire.

NannyR · 11/11/2022 14:25

Ramona is really nice, Mona does make me think of moaner, unfortunately.

PinkSyCo · 11/11/2022 14:18
