Thoughts on these names?

Hello,

Would really appreciate any thoughts/ favourites on the following names, which we have narrowed down to.

Or if you get our vibe and have any other suggestions, we’d love to hear them too. :)

Second name is a traditional -son name, so we’d prefer shortish names.

Girl:

River - no, too hippie
Joni - no, sounds like Johnny boy
Juno - OK
Millie - ok, but better as a nickname for Matilda or other more grownup name
Olive - cute

Boy:

Haines - no. Weird. Sounds like Hades
Leif - no. Is that even a name?
River (again) - no. See above

River - dreary and more often a boy's name. With surname might be an actual river
Joni - fine
Juno - Do you know...
Millie - lots of them
Olive - oily little fruit
Boy:
Haines - manual
Leif - leef or layf? (i was made for dancing a-all all night long)
River (again) - wet and dreary

Joni and Leif. don't like the others

Juno is the only one of your girls’ names that I like - the rest are either too try hard (River and Joni), too dowdy (Olive) or insipid (Millie).

I’m afraid I don’t like any of the boys’ names. Haines sound too corporate, River is somehow both too try hard and overdone now, and Leif I think would just confuse people (assuming you’re in the U.K.)

I am a fan of lots of similar nature and Scandi style names though - things like Soren, Stellan, Nils and so on. Lots of lovely options out there!

River - ok but a bit try-hard
Joni - again, try-hard rock&roll
Juno - ugly "o" ending
Millie - ten a' penny
Olive - disgusting

Boy:

Haines - surname
Leif - ok if you have Scandinavian connections
River (again) - ok

River, prefer Brooke for a girl. Or Asha.
Joni, one I knew was short for Johanna
Juno - like
Millie - ok, full names like Mildred or Millicent are hideous. Who would lumber their beautiful baby with Mildred?
Olive - like

-I love Joni (Joni Mitchell 😍)
-Juno and Olive are nice.
-Millie just seems like too much of a nickname (and one that works better for a child than an adult), if I was using it I’d go for a longer more formal name (Millicent, Mildred etc), but you’ve said you’re not keen on longer names.
-Sorry but I can’t stand the name River on boys or girls I just find it too ‘out there’. Same with both of your boys names really.

I think Brooke is nicer for a girl than River.
I like River on boys. I like Leif too.
