We really like the name but have seen it spelt Ciara, Kiara, Kiera, Keira and Kira, which spelling do you prefer or which is most common? Thank you

One of my best friend's daughter is Ciara - pronounced Keera . Lovely name Never known her to have a problem with spelling etc at school etc. Most normal people will get it if even they have a problem in the first place

So I vote Ciara

Jeelypieces20storeys · 29/08/2023 00:38

Ciara or Kira would be my choices

WhatapityWapiti · 28/08/2023 23:37

I have had a friend called “Kee- rah” for years, I just had to check Facebook for the spelling!

It’s Kira. She is not Japanese or Eastern European, she is Kiwi, ethnically Northern European. I like it!

OzDownUnder · 28/08/2023 23:23

Ciara or Keira

SuperiorM · 28/08/2023 23:22

Our Dutch friends spell it Keira

EinyLinky · 28/08/2023 23:21

Kiera or Ciara

Ciara, Kiara, Kiera, Keira and Kira,

Ciara is my favourite. Kiera would be my second fave, although it looks like Kieran forgot the N. Don't like the others

I would pronounce the others
Kiara: kee - aarr - ah
Keira: kye - rah
Kira: ker - ah

Ciara is the female version of Ciarán - Irish names.
Kiera is Kieran without the n! It’s the English spelling of the names above!

Keira

elm26 · 13/11/2022 17:16

I've got a cousin Ciara (we are Irish) (pronounced Kee-ra) and I know somebody named Kira (pronounce Ky-ra).

dandelionthistle · 12/11/2022 18:30

Ciara. Some will get it wrong, but only the once. It looks much nicer.

Keira would be my second preference. I'm significantly less keen on the others.

Juliaplus4 · 12/11/2022 17:30

Ciara

I have taught a number of Europeans called Chiara over the years which I think is lovely. Nicer IMO than Keira. Cee a ra

In what language do you think Chiara is Cee a ra? Because its an Italian name and thats not close to the italian way to say it...

Kiera because "I" comes before "e"

Tell that to Neil and Sheila

NameBlame · 10/11/2022 14:48

Keira - a misspelling, popularised by Keira Knightly whose Dad got it wrong when he registered her

Someone upthread has already corrected this.

Keira was a spelling long before Keira Knightly was born. Her dad was supposed to choose the Kiera spelling (after the person she was being named after) but accidentally spelt it the other way. Keira Knightly saying it was a “spelling mistake” is pretty annoying for all of those who have used that genuine spelling over many decades.

purpleboy · 10/11/2022 14:33

Kiera because "I" comes before "e"

bogo · 10/11/2022 14:05

I think no matter which spelling you pick, you're going to be correcting the spelling/pronunciation often.

Irish people will be most familiar with Ciara. English people will probably be most familiar with Keira because of Keira Knightley. People with connections to Russia/former USSR countries will probably think it's Kira. Etc.

Frazzled2207 · 10/11/2022 11:55

just to confuse matters further as a Kevin Bacon fan I know his wife is Kyra and although to me that looks like kye-ra I believe she also pronounces it key-ra

Frazzled2207 · 10/11/2022 11:53

Keira or Ciara
But probably only the latter if you have Irish connections
both pron. kee-ra

Nice name but the various spelling options would put me off tbh. That said I know a little Keira and neither her nor her parents seem too troubled by it.

TheBirdintheCave · 10/11/2022 11:47

If you mean the Irish name then it's Ciara.

If you mean the Russian/Eastern European name then Kira.

If you mean the Italian name (with a different pronunciation altogether) then it's Chiara.

LulooLemon · 10/11/2022 10:54

Ciara

Coolyule · 10/11/2022 08:47

Keira

Ciara is the proper spelling. It's an Irish name and there's no K in the Irish alphabet

This

Rainbowandbirdhouse · 10/11/2022 07:56

Irish so I like Ciara.
I'd guess Kira as Kye-ra, like Kite or Kind.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/11/2022 03:57

I like Kira - less likely to get the pronunciation mangled by randoms, plus I'm a Deep Space Nine fan!
