I have a Matthew Joseph. He's 4. I love it. No other Matthews in his year at school or at nursery.

Whoneedsleep · 04/11/2022 13:07

We have a Matthew.
He is the only one in his school, never met another.

We don’t shorten it but a couple of his friends at school call him Matt.

newnamenellie · 04/11/2022 12:24

Sorry, it's incredibly dull.

Stressedmummaa · 04/11/2022 06:52

My little boys middle name is Mathew after my dad! ♥️

Matthew David

I like it a lot. I’m not sure about a middle name but I suggest maybe don’t go for another overtly biblical name especially Mark, Luke or John!

My brothers friendship circle when he was at primary school were Matthew, Mark, Luke and John-Gary Grin

Sunnidaze · 04/11/2022 06:25

I have a Matthew. It's a beautiful, strong, uncomplicated name which is easy to spell and pronounce, and not horribly common at the moment (he's in a school of nearly 2000 boys, very few other Matthews).

Munches · 04/11/2022 06:18

My DH is called Matthew . Never call him Matt.
Lovely name. 💙

Londonnight · 04/11/2022 06:11

My Matthew is in his 40's now. He has never been called Matt. I still love his name all these years later.

sashh · 04/11/2022 06:08

I know a couple of Matthews.

One his mum nicknamed him, "matchstick", a few months later his hair grew in properly and was red. Matchstick stuck.

Theoldwoman · 04/11/2022 05:54

Not a fan and I love classical, but there are less nicer names .

Mathew Thomas
Mathew William
Mathew Alexander
Mathew Edward
Mathew Christopher
Mathew Benjamin
Mathew Philip
Mathew Francis
Mathew Jacob

It means 'gift of god'. Trust me I dated someone for 17 years and he definitely thought he was gods gift.

JeanMarie · 04/11/2022 02:06

My youngest is Matthew. I love the name but now he is an adult he gets called Matt. I think I'm the only one who still calls him Matthew . His best friend is also called Matthew. They play in a band together and as my son is 6'6" tall they are known as big Matt and wee Matt. 😁

bigbluebus · 03/11/2022 14:36

My OH is a Matthew. His old Uni friends call him Matt but almost everyone else calls him Matthew.

Rockschooldropout · 03/11/2022 14:19

@ChnandlerBong my other son is a Daniel 😃

ChnandlerBong · 03/11/2022 10:11

Have a Matthew - he's always been the only Matthew in his class/year, surrounded by a sea of Olivers, Georges and Finns!
I love it because it's not of this generation so it feels more timeless.

BUT i don't really like Matt! And as he's now 18 that's what everyone calls him - so am adjusting. Anyone who has a younger Matthew needs to fae up to the fact that 99% of them will be Matt as adults.

If I had my time again I would have gone with Daniel as I much prefer Dan to Matt...

Sorry off topic I know - maybe Matthew Daniel? x

Topseyt123 · 03/11/2022 10:10

I like it. Good, strong classic boy's name.

ByeByeMr · 03/11/2022 10:03

Love it!

SequoiaTree · 03/11/2022 09:32

It's not my cup of tea, but I remember when dd was at primary school there were 3 boys in the year who were gifted at maths, so had extra "stretch" sessions. They were all called Matthew!

emmathedilemma · 03/11/2022 09:28

It's a classic, i know them of all ages and it's always suited them. They don't all get called Matt. I think the younger ones I know are both Matthew James.

Kite22 · 03/11/2022 00:09

Lovely, classic name.
Everyone will recognise it and know both how to say it if they see it written down or spell it if they hear it.
Never seem to be loads in one class / group, but well known.

DramaAlpaca · 02/11/2022 23:56

I love Matthew, such a good name.

lemongirl1985 · 02/11/2022 22:49

My 12 year old is called Matthew and never called Matt. Classic and unusual these days. I love it. Obviously Wink
