Rosanna/Roseanna

I started a very similar thread the other day about our DD's middle name 😅

Her first name will be Rosanna, probably spelt like this. In fact, we were pretty set that it would be spelt like this. To me, this looks better and is more common...and that's how it's spelt in Toto's song so it must be right surely 😂
My mum seems to think Roseanna is the 'proper' way and Rosanna would be pronounced Roz-Anna 🙄
I'm annoyed because I haven't actually told anyone that this is the name we have chosen for this reason, as I'm now second guessing it. My mum was commenting on it because it's on our shortlist.

How would you spell it?
Would you pronounce Rosanna the same way as Roseanna?

That is probably the 'proper' way, but it's most commonly spelt Esme (from what I've seen on the internet and people I've met) and like I said, as it's a middle name I can't be faffed with the accent!

I also read Rosanagh like Rose-ann-agg 😂

I would pronounce Rosanna/Roseanna the same. I have a Rosanna, in her twenties now. Very occasionally she's had people adding the 'e' when writing her name, but no one has ever struggled to pronounce it correctly. The name has served her well!

Thanks everyone - we're sticking with Rosanna!

@brackengirl we're going for Esme Jayne. Esme is another one that my mum decided is spelt wrong but as it's a middle name I'm just going with the most common, least complicated version😅She'll get over it seeing as Jayne is in honour of her!

Rosanna looks much nicer and more "correct".
Roseanna looks like a mishmash of 2 names.
I would pronounce them the same - effectively Ro - Zanna.

My Rosanna is 12 and no one has ever pronounced her name Roz- Anna, always Ro- sanna. We have had people adding the e in the middle when writing it but it's not a big issue. It's a great name! What are you thinking for a middle name? We chose Rosanna Eve

I'd say them slightly differently but it would be barely imperceptible:

Rosanna (ro-sanna)

Roseanna (Rose-anna)

My nanna was one in a line of many Roseanne/Roseanna's so I'm used to seeing the name with the extra 'e'. I don't think Rosanna is wrong though.

Have known several Rosannas and would say this is pretty standard spelling in Uk? Never heard it pronounced Rozz-anna.

The Roseanna spelling makes me want to say Rosy-anna

I prefer Rosanna. When I see it written as Roseanna I kind of want to pronounce it Rosie-anna - illogical I know, but that's what my brain sees first.

I would pronounce them the same.

Rosanna is the nicest spelling to me. I'm not keen on erroneous letters in names, and it really doesn't need that 'e' in the middle.

I adore Rosanna, it's my favourite Ros- name.

I'd pronounce Rosanna as Roz-Anna. Sorry! But this may just be because I know a Rosanna who pronounces it Roz-Anna, and I personally prefer the Roz sound.

Once corrected though, I'm sure anyone who assumed it was Roz would have no problem though surely

Not sure about Rosanne tbh. How does Roseanne Barr pronounce hers? She's the only one I've ever heard of tbh. I'd automatically think Rose-Anne but not sure.

I've only ever seen this name spelled Roseanne or Roseanna but I can't see it makes much difference. Certainly not to pronunciation.

Rosanna seems more correct to me.
I would pronounce it Rose anna,
Or Ro-Sanna which is exactly the same for me but might be easier to explain to your Mum

Roseanna lools like someone only heard the name and guessed at the spelling, and its like someone smushed names together like Lilyanna instead of Liliana or Tattyanna instead of Tatiana.

I would pronounce Rosanna as
Ro-Zanna so like Rosa is
Ro-za/zuh. Where as I would pronounce Roseanna as Rose-Anna.

Prefer Rosanna as it looks like a single name whereas Roseanna looks like two stuck together. Lovely name!

They’re says the same in my experience and without the e is more classic.

I’ve never heard of anyone called Rosanne pronouncing it ‘Rozanna’

I am related to a Rosanna, always pronounced Rose-Anna, very rarely wrong pronunciation or misspelled. Mind, people were very quick to call her Rosa and that’s what’s she’s known as by everyone now!

I would say Ros anna for Rosanna and Rose Anna for Roseanna. I think the ea in Roseanna looks a bit clunky.

I actually prefer Rozanne, which I would pronounce Roaz Anne.

I'd pronounce Rosanna and Roseanna in the same way. The other variation (at least in Italy-) Rossanna is different. It's Ross not Rose.
