Timeless or boring?

Has anyone any ideas of other timeless classics?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bigslippers · 30/10/2022 21:49

I personally love it.
Its classic and timeless as long as spelt Jane without adding the Y

Also love Anna, Annie, Mary, Juliet, Louisa,

ODFOx · 30/10/2022 21:47

Matthew and Elizabeth ?
Caroline or Jennifer then.
John or James for a bit.

Why low rent @Luredbyapomegranate ? It's the Welsh spelling

I didn't know that before. The girls and women I knew growing up who were called Jayne had no Welsh connection at all, as far as I was aware. Very unlikely that they all did. I think they were more likely named for Jayne Mansfield.

freyamay74 · 30/10/2022 21:39

@Pieceofpurplesky isn't Sian the Welsh variant of Jane?

Coconutcream123 · 30/10/2022 21:32

As a middle name yes.
It's not a bad name it is just a bit boring.

SpringIntoChaos · 30/10/2022 21:31

Lovely...especially spelt Jayne 🥰

RascafríaMom · 30/10/2022 21:29

I think it is pretty and I can think of some women with that name like Jane Fonda, Jane Seymour, Jane Grey, Jane Austen but not a huge amount. Some of them are very admirable. It isn't a name i would chose, but still lovely.

Mwnci123 · 30/10/2022 21:24

I like it

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/10/2022 21:23

Why low rent @Luredbyapomegranate ? It's the Welsh spelling

xPeaceX · 30/10/2022 21:19

I love it. I do not know a single Jane so I'd hardly say it was unimaginative.

Floralnomad · 30/10/2022 21:17

Charlotte goes well with your other names as does Caroline , susannah and Annette .

Wordwatcher · 30/10/2022 21:16

Annabel
Helena
Rose
Juliet
Clarissa

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/10/2022 21:13

ODFOx · 30/10/2022 20:15

Never put a y in Jane.
No need. Just no need.

Quite

It is… low rent

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/10/2022 21:12

SummaLuvin · 30/10/2022 20:53

Has anyone let the French know they are chavvy with their penchant for double barrel names? 🤔

Well… France is a different country and culture so.. it’s got nothing to do with it.

Rauha · 30/10/2022 21:11

I really like it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/10/2022 21:10

I really like it - it will be back soon with other mid century names. You can be in the vanguard.

Or maybe

Marianne
Caroline
Frances
Mary
Juliet
Jocelyn
Lois
Honor
Cassia
Francesca
Adela
Louisa
Susannah
Diana
Serena
Jean
June

but I’d go for Jane

shedwithivy · 30/10/2022 21:07

Janet, Jeanette, Jean, Joan, Jocelyn, Josephine, Jillian, Jennifer?
(I'm not a fan of Jane but that is by association with people I've known with the name).

mathanxiety · 30/10/2022 20:57

I think Emily is a lot more boring than Jane.

Joan otoh is a name with a lot of moxie and imo more appealing than either Jane or Emily. Mind you, I also like Vera so I may not be heading in the same direction as you.

SummaLuvin · 30/10/2022 20:53

hattie43 · 30/10/2022 19:36

@toastofthetown

Chavvy names usually double barrelled or a normal name spelt strangely eg Kayleigh spelt Caylee or Kaylee

Lily -Mae
Chelsea -Rae
China -Rose
Tilly -Tia
Bobbi - Jo
Jodie -Jane

Has anyone let the French know they are chavvy with their penchant for double barrel names? 🤔

Ikeameatballs · 30/10/2022 20:50

I really like it. I also love Jean but I think Jane works better as a set with Matthew and Elizabeth.

Other ideas along the same theme:
Frances
Ruth
Catherine
Helena
Laura
Sarah
Rebecca
Susannah
Mary
Anna
Diana

luciaann · 30/10/2022 18:21

Boring. So so boring. Plain Jane.

My timeless classics that I like are

Emma
Chloe
Lauren
Juliet

Lauren is absolutely not a timeless classic. Almost unknown as a girl's name before Betty Joan Perske took the pseudonym of Lauren Bacall.

SmellyNelliey · 30/10/2022 20:08

My DD who is 6 is called Mary Jayne.
I absolutely love it! She gets lots of compliments on her name!

You know what Mary Jane is done you lol

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/10/2022 20:42

MalagaNights · 30/10/2022 18:41

It is classic and elegant in its simplicity.

I think it will have a revival soon but you're probably ahead of the curve.

Anne will then also have a revival with spare elegance being sought over cute tweeness.

I do hope you're right!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/10/2022 20:38

I am 61 and I was at school with a few girls called Jayne. To me that is the dated name here. Jane is a true classic. Jane Austen, Jane Eyre, Jane Goodall, (Miss) Jane Marple. No problems with spelling, no problems with pronunciation. Lovely.

See also: Mary. Thread running on that here as well.

Or: Anne/Ann.

Mydoggosarethebest · 30/10/2022 20:38

Although I know a 27yr old Jane and she is the loveliest person so I think it’s a great name thanks to her.

I also know a 27 year old Jane, wonder if it's the same one @JuneWind 🤣
