Timeless or boring?

Has anyone any ideas of other timeless classics?

Hi, does anyone know names that mean anything along the lines of influential?
Gender doesn't matter

KirstenBlest · 31/10/2022 15:26

It isn't, @Pieceofpurplesky .
There's no J in Welsh and because Welsh is phonetic it would be almost unpronounceable. It would be approximately Jigh-neh.
Jên would give you a welsified Jane.

Siân is the Welsh form of Jane.

KirstenBlest · 31/10/2022 15:19

Lauren is not classic or timeless; Laura is so much nicer.
Jane is a classic. I don't think it was popular in the1980s other than as a middle name.

Penguinsaregreat · 31/10/2022 14:36

I like Jane. Never met a bad Jane ever.
Can’t say that for every name.

Lauren is absolutely not a timeless classic. Almost unknown as a girl's name before Betty Joan Perske took the pseudonym of Lauren Bacall.

Definitely not a classic.
It's a very 80s name that is starting to feel dated.

JanetSally · 31/10/2022 11:38

I think it's beautiful. It's certainly not a name used by unimaginative people.

Unimaginative people follow the latest trend and use a name that's everywhere at the moment.

Jane is for people with zero imagination.

I think you’ll find that’s Emily.

midsomermurderess · 30/10/2022 23:26

I like it. It feels fresh after what seems like years of dainty, frilly names.

greenteafiend · 30/10/2022 23:11

I like it and would find it really refreshing these days.

Janey/Janie is cute as a nickname.

No need for "Jayne." It spoils the simplicity of this classic name.

Emily is so boring. I know several nice Emilys, but oh goodness, it is a yaaaawwwn of a name.

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/10/2022 22:50

Actually @Byfleet a lot lot older than that. I hate the term 'low-rent, bet you use chavvy too. So bloody snobby.

My great grandmother was Jayne and Welsh (so 1860s). I believe it comes from the Middle Ages following from its Hebrew roots. It originated as a surname in the 1200s and from their became a first name. Has also been used in Wales as a spelling a long way back. I believe first recorded in Monmouthshire way back (I researched my great grandmother so have all this info!)

So yeah, low rent and modern is totally wrong. Name snobbery is so ridiculous.

Byfleet · 30/10/2022 22:27

Jayne is definitely low rent. There’s nothing wrong with Jane, so I guess someone added the y in the 1950s or so to be different. Was it Jayne Mansfield?

Also, Jayne is definitely not Welsh, why would it be? The Welsh version of Jane is Sian.

Veggieburgers · 30/10/2022 22:21

Louisa

AltroVinoPerFavore · 30/10/2022 22:20

Emily fits with the siblings names better. So does Anna. Jane is a bit too dull.

How about Lilian?

It's my mother's name (50s baby) and my middle name (70s baby). I used to hate it but I'm starting to feel differently, which suggests to me that it's time for a comeback. Agree with a PP that you'll be just ahead of the curve. So a good choice I think.

Also agree on the spelling Jane. Also love Janey as a NN.

soulinablackberrypie · 30/10/2022 22:09

I like Jane a lot. It was very popular in my age group but I never found it boring even then, and it would seem quite fresh now.

freyamay74 · 30/10/2022 22:03

@geraniumsandsunshine yes Janey is nice as a nickname. Jane for the given name though; it's just so elegant and classy

Monoprix · 30/10/2022 22:00

Endlessly boring. Just like Emily.

RoseMartha · 30/10/2022 21:57

I like it

geraniumsandsunshine · 30/10/2022 21:56

Janey is cute

Daisy62 · 30/10/2022 21:50

I love Jane, I think it's a strong name. Due a comeback. Prefer the classic spelling.

mathanxiety · 30/10/2022 21:49

How about keeping the Th theme going?

Matthew, Elizabeth, and Dorothea
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Tabitha
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Ruth
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Theodora

Or stay with a fairly classical name theme -
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Alice
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Susannah
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Cecelia
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Tessa
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Greta
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Felicity
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Rosemary
Matthew, Elizabeth, and Annabel
