Just that, what are people’s thoughts on the name Stephanie?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 26/10/2022 21:04

Oh! Mumsnet!

I love how "Lisa" on another thread is absolutely lauded, but "Stephanie" is dated.

OP, you'll get no useful info, here.

(Congratulations ☺️)

Strokethefurrywall · 26/10/2022 21:00

Love it! Also love Stevie as a nickname.

lakeswimmer · 26/10/2022 20:59

I really like it. It's pretty and elegant without being fussy. I also like Steph/Steffi/Stevie as nicknames.

SpinningFloppa · 26/10/2022 20:56

Don’t like it and agree it’s a “mum” name

PunchDrunkTurtle · 26/10/2022 20:53

I think it's a beautiful name but I do think it's very dated to the 80s. Stephanie/Tiffany same sort of thing.

Inasec24 · 26/10/2022 20:51

I like Steph - every Steph I have ever known has been really likeable.
I LOVE Stevie

Randomusername140 · 26/10/2022 20:51

So outing but first time I've seen my name on here 🤣 I can't believe I have a mum name apparently!

And I'm only ever Stephanie when I'm in trouble.

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/10/2022 20:50

I like it. Also like Stevie for short. It will stand out without being very unusual.

Inasec24 · 26/10/2022 20:50

It's very retro, but I love it

pyjamafashionista · 26/10/2022 20:49

Lovely. Elegant. Timeless. My opinion!

TheGoodEnoughWife · 26/10/2022 19:49

I am biased but it is a lovely name. Has worked really well. The one I 'know' goes by the name of Steph and just fits in any circle she frequents. Not that many around but everyone knows how to spell it.

Cryingbutstilltrying · 26/10/2022 19:49

I like it.
I know 2 children called Stephanie. One is 17 and usually goes by Steph, one is 6 and is Stevie. They’re lovely kids and I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything negative about their names, fairly well known in the uk. I would keep the conventional UK spelling unless you have any other cultural connections.

Woodywood · 26/10/2022 19:44

Seems to be a bit of a marmite name!

Absolutely beautiful name.

FayCarew · 26/10/2022 15:38

It seems dated. Stefania seems fresher

schnubbins · 26/10/2022 14:06

I love it .I have a beautiful Canadian friend called Stefanie (that spelling) so I am biased .

neverendinglauaundry · 26/10/2022 14:02

Love it. Lovely as a full name and good nn potential too
I know a lovely Steph

TootMootZoot · 26/10/2022 13:59

It's a lovely name

Just that, what are people’s thoughts on the name Stephanie?

I do think it's a bit dated, 70s/80s but also I don't really like the sound of it. Not very elegant in my opinion. On the plus, probably won't be lots of her peers with the same name

Whatsleftnow · 26/10/2022 13:11

I would automatically assume it’s a female version of Stephen, and wonder who she was named for. It’s not a name I would think of as standing alone iykwim. Same for names like Davida, Georgina etc.

Woodywood · 26/10/2022 13:09

A lot of my friends that are mums have names that are quite popular with babies now Sophie, Lucy, Ella, Emily, Charlotte. But I guess it depends when the name became popular and how long it then stays in general use as to whether it’s considered a dated mums name or just a name mums have 😆

FanFckingTastic · 26/10/2022 13:00

I know two Stephanie's - neither from the UK. Both of them use a shortened version of this name - Fanny - I understand that this is quite a common nickname.

I personally wouldn't want to be called Fanny so I wouldn't choose this name but your baby, your choice.

I’ve never heard fanny as a chosen nn for Stephanie in the UK before

Beautiful and classic.

IHateWasps · 26/10/2022 13:04

It's definitely dated and a "Mum" name to me but then so are a lot of names. My name is definitely dated but it doesn't bother me.

Yiayoula · 26/10/2022 13:01

Beautiful name, classic and timeless.
