Just wondered what peoples thoughts are on a baby girls name - Truly. I absolutely love it but husband isn't convinced... xxx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@ADadadadaLikeThisInTheBackground or the yooneek Otterly 😆

Marcipex · 21/10/2022 22:12

I don’t think Ferrety’s parents call her that, her colleagues do.

However I know a Harriet nn Ratty by her family which I think is quite cute.

It's like calling your child Very or Bloody or Totally. 'Congratulations, Literally Hancock, you're our new Prime Minister.'

Tbf MN has been obsessed with the name Utterly recently.

Sorry I mean, Ottilie.

Honor or Honora?
or Verity (although I know one called Ferrety)

Ferrety? Surely not, that's really unfair.

Ferrety?! 😲😖

Why have a child at all if you're going to treat them as a freaking joke from day one? Some parents are heartless

How many people called Truly are out there so that half of the people on this thread know one? Or do you all know the same one?

HailAdrian · 21/10/2022 21:36

As usual, everyone is really overthinking it. I knew a Truly and she didn't experience any of this stuff.

NovemberRain2 · 21/10/2022 19:55

I've a relative named Truly and it really suits her.

She sometimes gets the Scrumptious thing but laughs it off. Not a big deal.

She is unique.

Occassionally gets called Trudy but again, not a big deal.

We all love her name. She is successful and very secure in her self. It's never held her back.

So go for it if you like it.

bleedinheckitscold · 21/10/2022 19:39

I will put myself out there and say I actually think it's a very cute name, it sounds nice when you say it. I think a baby Truly would be extra cute.

It's definitely much nicer than many of the other "out there - new wave" names these days, it's nicer than some of the boring old traditional names too.

A name is just a word anyway, why are there rules on what can and can't be a name?
I would also would be happy to be called Truly myself.

BUT, there is absolutely no way I would be able to get my husband to agree to it

Penguinsaregreat · 21/10/2022 19:02

Scrumptious springs to my mind too.

Lightningfast · 21/10/2022 18:59

Poor child will have a lifetime of smart Alecs sticking her name after any negative adjective they can think of

Truly...awful
Truly...depressing
Truly...disgusting etc.

Just don’t. You know it would be wrong OP! What about Trudy, Hayley, Giulia?

KitchenSupper · 21/10/2022 18:57

If you like it, go with it.
I know a little Truth, and she doesn’t seem to experience any issues with it.

FindingMeno · 21/10/2022 18:53

Beautiful name.
I love it.

Middle names Madly Deeply
Go on, what's DD1's name???

Utterly

SpringIntoChaos · 21/10/2022 18:50

You want to call your child an adverb?

How about: anxiously, courageously, sadistically, critically, mightily, hauntingly?

As adverbs go, truly is a bit weak...at least go for one with a bit of power! 💪

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

WhoppingBigBackside · 21/10/2022 18:50

@BananaCocktails , She'll go to her reception class and find that the 3 Trulys registered in Enland and Wales 4 years previously are all in the same catchment area.

Bunheads fan?

Gonksmum · 21/10/2022 18:44

Like it.

BananaCocktails · 21/10/2022 18:43

It’s beautiful x and unusual and nobody will have it
it’s a gorgeous name

MouldyCheeseandBiscuits · 21/10/2022 18:40

Chitty Chitty bang bang fan?

Dreamingcats · 21/10/2022 18:32

How about Shirley? That gives me a similar vibe.

Dreamingcats · 21/10/2022 18:31

I think it's pretty. I do think scrumptious, but she's a nice character. Certainly like it better than some of the names that get love on here.

Your husband not being keen is more of a problem I'd say.

AmandaMirandaPanda · 21/10/2022 18:25

I have a friend whose surname is Truly, so that's another possibly source besides being a virtue name, and no worse than, say, Connolly or Everly or Riley as a first name. Strangely, though, even as a surname she had a lot of people mispronouncing it as Truey or Trudy.
