Which one do you prefer?
I love vintage 'old lady' names!
Thanks

I don't think a 40-yr old Annie sounds childish. I know one aged 30 and it suits her, and it's no more childish than Ellie or Evie. I had an Aunty Annie and it suited her at all ages, but she was Ann on her BC - she just wasn't an Ann.

Annie is fine for a child but a 40 year old Annie sounds childish. Anna gives you the nn option of Annie as a child & more classier, mature first name for an adult.

@Chickenpeppers

I’m really struggling with why Annie is so terrible. But appreciate children can be cruel and random with it.

I remember reading on here years ago about a boy who was bullied based on his name/ears. His name was Daniel - “Daniel, Daniel, got ears like a cocker spaniel” was the taunt.

TheBirdintheCave · 29/10/2022 23:23

@Chickenpeppers What on earth is wrong with Annie? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Imogensmumma · 21/10/2022 01:31

as A pp said Anna Violet is the cutest then call her Annie

I agree with this too.

@Chickenpeppers

Bit extreme 🥴

Unfortunately my reality as that was the name my mother chose. Lucky changing your name by deed poll isn't expensive although therapy is

RuthW · 29/10/2022 23:19

Ada. Annie is a shortened version of a name.

SoftSheen · 29/10/2022 23:18

Anna Violet would be lovely.

Firebird83 · 29/10/2022 23:16

Annie is lovely.

Annie or Anna ❤️

Chickenpeppers · 29/10/2022 22:56

If you want your child to be bullied for their entire childhood to the point they're so mentally damaged and traumatised they want to end their own life and end up hating you for naming them it, go with Annie.

Shouldawouldacoulda30 · 29/10/2022 22:53

Annie is a prettier,gentle name.

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 29/10/2022 15:11

Annie

Theoldwoman · 29/10/2022 14:42

Ada Violet

PlantsHaveTakenOverMyHome · 29/10/2022 13:57

The names I mean, not my grandmothers! 😄

PlantsHaveTakenOverMyHome · 29/10/2022 13:55

I love Annie! My grandmothers' names were Annie and Alice (both turn of the century) and I think they're so cute.

LightHousePanda · 21/10/2022 09:05

Annie

I know people are really into how a full name flows together but unless it's really clunky or silly I'd go with the name you want them to be called. Very rarely is someone going to be known as 'Ada Violet' or 'Annie Violet'. Their friends, colleagues, family etc will just know them as Ada or Annie and most likely not know their middle name.

I think Annie is much nicer than Ada. There are lots of short names at the moment ending in -a. I think Annie is a classic.

EstellaRijnveld · 21/10/2022 08:57

Anna Violet (nn Annie but she can use Anna as an adult because it sounds more grown up)

Ada still sounds like a bag lady name to me but Anna is more classier of the two names.

Katyawampus · 21/10/2022 01:36

Not keen on Ada or Annie but love Eadie which I think would go well with Violet

Imogensmumma · 21/10/2022 01:31

as A pp said Anna Violet is the cutest then call her Annie

Imogensmumma · 21/10/2022 01:30

Violet Annie

Pinkittens · 21/10/2022 01:21

(But actually, Violet is my fave ahead of Ada or Annie for a first name!)

Pinkittens · 21/10/2022 01:19

As a PP said, Ada Violet goes much better but I prefer Annie personally than Ada.
Have you considered Anna?

DramaAlpaca · 21/10/2022 00:37

Ada Violet of the two.

I like Annie but only as a diminutive, not as a given name.
