My daughter has 4 Sophia’s in her class alone.

Also Rueben seems to be the most common boys name.

In DS’s primary school Oliver, Harry, Jacob and Lily and Ruby for girls. I used to work there and one year we had a class where every girl’s name ended in -y or -a except one.

His high school is an all boys school but I think there are only duplicates of Oliver in his class.

RhubarbFairy · 14/10/2022 23:28

In DS2s year (babies born 2012/2013) there's 3 Alfie's, 2 Dylan's and surprisingly 2 Opal's.

I don't know about DS1 anymore but at primary he had 3 Joshua's, 2 Harry's, 2 Oliver's, 2 Riley's and 2 Noah's (born 2010/2011).

bumblenbean · 14/10/2022 23:27

Oh and Emily! Loads of them for some reason.

KeepOutingMyselfAnotherNameChange · 14/10/2022 23:14

Olivia, Nevaeh and Alfie seem to be the names of half the school.

SpringIntoChaos · 14/10/2022 23:14

Primary teacher:

Boys names - every variation of Oliver - I had 6 in my class last year!! This is by a country mile the most popular name in our school.

Similarly Edward - Ted/Teddy/Eddie/Eddy

Girls - Amelia/Amelie/Amy/Emily/Ellie/Lilly/Lily/Lillie/Isla (most of these with 'Rose' as a middle name...many hyphenated that we have to use in full!!! 🤦‍♀️ We are inundated with these names...they kind of blend into a sea of 'llllllll' sounding names in the register! Amelialilyemilyislaelli 🤣

Florence - we have at least 2 in every year group...there are 3 in Year 5 🤦‍♀️

It would be nice to get the occasional Jennifer or Keith, just to break up the daily 'sameness' to be honest 🤣 (I'd love a Keith to turn up on my register! 😂). Nothing at all wrong with any of the above names by the way...they are all lovely!! There's just such a lot of them...and they're all in my class, on repeat 😄

Apollonia1 · 14/10/2022 23:07

Mila, Myla, Lyla, Layla, Amelia for girls
Leo for boys

Isobel/Isabel/Isabelle & Evie

Charlie, Oliver, Jack/Jax & Archie

The boys in nursery class have some FABULOUS names though:

Axel
Bodhi
Casimir
Greyson
Jasper
Keanu

Axl is very Scandinavian - I descend from there so am probably biased.

Keanu and Bodhi calls immediate memories of 'Point Break' an all-time favourite of mine. The origins of Bodhi are wonderful, not sure if I'd choose it, though.

My own son has a less recognisable, less common name associated with the same film - no, it is not Tyler - but I didn't realise this until rewatching it several years after his birth.

As to oft-mentioned names on this thread, I love Reuben, and am surprised to see it's so much more popular now (son is 8 and it wasn't nearly so far up the top-100 list then). I also have a soft spot for Arthur, the name of my wonderful Grandfather, but am now quite glad husband put his foot down over that one. There are a lot about!

Son's class has a number of Ruperts, Olivers and Josephs. The girls nearly all have names that are lovely but not, as far as I know, overly popular: Faith, Grace, Rosa, Evelyn.

PurpleBrocadePeacock · 14/10/2022 23:02

Oliver and Sophia. But also lots of names that sound similar or have the same nickname like:

Leo/Leonardo/Lia/Leila
Anna/Annabel/Anna-Marie/Annika
Emilia/Amelia/Amelie

Luna and Nova?? Like Vauxhall Nova??

yes @ImissyouBR1 Nova 😂 it makes me shudder a little now. I know 2 people who’ve called their girls this.

I think Luna is kind of sweet.

The name Nova has been popular since the 19th century as opposed to the car which has been around since roughly the 1980’s.

Just one of many lovely names no longer acceptable dues to business and companies monopolising them.

Annalouisa · 14/10/2022 22:48
